IV. Course Description
This course is for students with a strong background in algebra. Students will study fundamental concepts
of algebra; equations and inequalities; functions and graphs; polynomials; and rational, exponential, and
logarithmic functions. This course has been exempted from the requirements of the Writing Across the
Curriculum policy. Prerequisite: MyMathTest Challenge Exam Level 3 score of 70 or higher or MATH
1040. Frequency: Every Fall and Winter.

1) Identify properties, laws, and definitions of algebra.
2) Factor and find real zeros of polynomials.
3) Solve and graph linear and quadratic equations and inequalities and graph Conic Sections.
4) Find the domain, range, and inverse of functions and graph functions including composite functions.
5) Solve, apply, & graph exponential and logarithmic functions.

X. Course Policies
General Policy:
It is your responsibility to take all tests. Failure to contact me on or before the day of a test will result in a
zero for that test . All related class work (quizzes, homework, tests) is assigned in MyMathLab or Canvas.
There will be a quiz every week on Wednesday. There will be no make-up for missed quizzes or tests,
but two lowest quiz (not test) grades will be dropped. Homework is assigned and collected every Friday
to assist students in preparation for quizzes and exams. No late homework is accepted.

* Read lecture notes after each class; then do homework.
* Date of tests will be announced at least one week in advance of the exam date.
TUTORING: Students are encouraged to use the free, individualized tutoring services offered by the
Tutoring and Testing Center (TTC) early and often throughout the term. TTC provides a supportive,
friendly, and comfortable atmosphere in which tutors and students work collaboratively on improving
students’ writing, math and/or science skills. Tutoring is offered in 45-minute sessions and is offered via
Zoom.
