Note:
• To rename decimal numbers to fractions, write the decimal as a
fraction with 10 or 100 as the denomination, then reduce to lowest
term.
• To rename fractions whose denominators are 10 and 100 to decimal
numbers, count the number of zeroes in the denominator. The tenth
has one digit after the decimal point. The hundredths has 2 digits after
the decimal point. Zero is used as a place holder.
• To rename fractions whose denominators are 10 and 100, first rename
the fractions in their equivalent fractions in tenths and hundredths,
then write them as decimal numbers.
MELC 31: Gives the Place Value and the Value of a Digit of a Given
Decimal Number through Hundredths
This module is all about place value and the value of a digit of a given
decimal number through hundredths. It also includes pre-requisite skills
involving the place value and value of a digit in whole numbers.
After going through this module, you should be able to give the place
value and the value of a digit of a given decimal number through hundredths.
In decimals, the value of the tenths place is one-tenth the value of the
ones place. The place to the left is ten times the place to the right. The
decimal point tells where the whole number part ends and where the decimal
part starts. The place value of a digit to the left is ten times of that to the right
whether to the left or to the right of the decimal point; equivalently, the place
value to the right is one- tenth of that to the left.
B. Illustrative Examples:
The place value of the digit 6 is tens and its value is 60. The place
value of the digit 5 is ones and its value is 5. The place value of the digit 2 is
tenths and its value is 0.2. The place value of the digit 7 is hundredths and
its value is 0.07.

Note:
• The value of a digit in a decimal number depends on
its place or position in the number.
• The first place to the right of the decimal point is the
tenths place. The second place is in the hundredths
place.
