Introduction
So let's just get this out of the way right off the bat.
Yes, you can score more points and win more
games, by only running six plays.
How do I know?
Because I’ve done it with myself and countless
coaches across the country.
And here's the crazy thing. You don't even have to
install or change your offense.
Crazy, right?
Like, you can really do this without changing your
entire structure. And it's true.
I'm not going to make you run my offense. You are
going to run your offense the offense you fell in love
with.
5
Why is that? Because I know that is the reason why
coaches got into this game. They want to put their
stamp of approval in their offense on their offense.
You see, we don't get into this game to just repeat
someone else's offense. We want to be the next big
thing. We want to be the next mouse Davis or the
next Mike Leach or the Urban Meyer.
But you can't do that if you are following someone
else's blueprint, because then that's not your
offense. It’s someone else’s offense.
And I realized this as I was helping other coaches
create explosive offenses. You can't force someone
to do something the don’t want to do.
You're gonna get resentment.
You're gonna get pushback.
Things aren’t gonna go their way, and then they will
just not do it anymore.
6
So how do you remedy this?
We will use six plays, but they will be YOUR SIX
PLAYS.
How?
By using the 8020 Principle and applying it to your
offense.
That is what I've done countless times with coaches
across the country. And that's what I do every single
time I meet with the Touchdown Lab members.
And I want to help you create your six play offense.
It's going to be amazing and I promise you it's not
going to take long. So let’s get right to it.
But before I do I feel like I have to introduce myself.
7
My name is Coach Ron McKie, and I'm a high
school football coach that has helped hundreds of
coaches across the world simplify their offense and
program using the 8020 Principle.
I started out as a defensive linebacker coach before
transitioning to running backs. And around that time,
I stumbled upon the 8020 Principle...which means
the best results come from a few plays.
So I started gearing everything towards that
principle.
And I want to help you to discover YOUR six best
plays so you can dominate your opponent this
season.
So let’s get to it!
8
Chapter One - Your Run Game
I don't know what it is about coaches and the run
game.
We love to run the ball, in any situation.
Could be 2nd and long or 4th and inches.
The defense can know we’re going to run the ball
and we STILL don’t care.
I think it all goes back to that coach who said that
only three things can happen when you pass the ball
and that set the RUN FIRST mentality in coaches.
And that’s a good AND bad thing.
First, the good thing. Yes - dominating your
opponent with the run is freaking amazing. To see
your opponent’s demeanor change because they
can’t stop you….beautiful.
9
But the bad thing is coaches become too reliant on
the run. And coaches start to add every single run
scheme ever invented into their offense.
So how do you combat that?
How do you have a run game that is dominant
without having like 18,000 different blocking
schemes.
Let’s take a little detour and, using math, show you
why you don’t want so many run schemes in your
offense.
We are going to use the average run schemes
members of the Touchdown Lab had before I helped
them simplify their offense.
Each Touchdown Lab member had five different run
schemes.
10
Now, those five different run schemes had to know
how to block the four basic defensive fronts - Even,
Odd, Stack, and Bear.
That’s 5 schemes X 4 defensive fronts = 20 different
blocking schemes.
And that's just going to the right.
We must multiple that 20 by 2 because we run the
ball to the left as well.
So in total, that’s 40 different blocking schemes your
offensive linemen have to memorize and know
EVERY SINGLE GAME.
That’s a lot of run schemes.
So how do we simplify this and get it down to
something more manageable?
You're gonna dive into your data.
11
You are going to figure out which is your BEST
inside run scheme….
...and which one is your BEST outside run scheme.
How?
You're gonna pull out all of the data that you have on
your runs.
You should have that data stored somewhere. Either
in your Hudl account or in separate Excel/Google
Spreadsheet files.
(If you don’t then you better go back through your
games and start charting the data.)
Now that you have the data you’re going to break
the runs into Inside Runs and Outside Runs.
Then break down that data into the following:
● Most Explosive Runs
● Least Explosive Runs
12
● Most Touchdowns
● Least Touchdowns
● Most Tackles for Loss
● Least Tackles for Loss
● Most Fumbles
● Least Fumbles
And you should start seeing a pattern. What is our
best run? What is our weakest run?
Figure out which is your best Inside and Outside
Run then get rid of the rest of your runs.
BOOM!
There's 2 out of the 6 plays in the 6-Play System.
13
Chapter Two - Your Passing
Game
So you've got your inside run and your outside run.
Great.
That means if they attack inside then you go outside.
And if they attack you from the outside then you go
inside.
Now we are going to do the same thing with our
Passing Game.
But before we do that, let’s talk about why your
quarterback struggles passing the ball.
You have too many passing plays and tags.
“No I don’t coach,” you say. “I have a handful of
concepts and a couple of tags.”
Yes it is!
14
Because you change the progression everytime you
add a tag.
And when you change the progression then it comes
a new play for your quarterback.
When you introduce a new play then the quarterback
has to remember the play…
...and he has to think.
Remember this. A thinking quarterback = a slow
quarterback.
So if your quarterback is struggling, it's because he
doesn't know the progression and you have to take
responsibility for that.
If you don’t, then your quarterback is going to
continue to struggle and you’re going to become a
Run First Coach who wonders why your offense
struggles.
15
But don’t worry.
Why?
We are fixing to discover your 2 best passes.
How?
By diving into YOUR passing data.
So what you're gonna do is you're going to separate
your passes into 2 categories: quick game and drop
back game.
After you do that then you are going to look for the
following:
● Highest completion percentage
● Lowest completion percentage
● Most touchdowns
● Least touchdowns
● Most interceptions
● Least interceptions
● Most explosive passes
16
● Least explosive passes
After you breakdown the data into the following
categories, you will start to see a pattern. You will
see which quick game concept is YOUR best quick
game concept. And you’ll see which quick game
concept is YOUR worst quick game concept.
So what are you going to do?
You’re going to pick YOUR best quick game concept
and get rid of the rest.
Now, we aren’t done.
We are going to watch cut ups of your best quick
game concept and figure out HOW the defense is
trying to stop it.
Then you are going to come up with ONE TAG that
attacks what the defense is doing to stop you.
For example, our best quick game concept was
Y-Corner. After watching the film, I noticed defenses
17
were running the safety towards the corner route to
stop our play. So the TAG I added to the quick game
was a post tag.
This created a IF/THEN play for me and our players.
It also helped make our quick game EXTRA
explosive!
Now, you’re going to do the same thing with your
drop back. Figure out which drop back concept is
your best concept. Figure out how the defense is
trying to stop that concept. And develop ONE TAG
to make the defense pay.
(Side note: I don’t care about your sprint out or boot
game. Use drop back. This simplifies everything. I
promise.)
BOOM!
You just developed 4 out of the 6 plays for the
6-Play System.
18
Chapter Three - Your Screens
I don't care who you are, what offense you run, you
need to have a successful screen game.
Why?
Because you need to counter a strong pass rush
and keep the defense on their toes.
Screens also are an easy way to get your
quarterback in a rhythm early in your game.
How?
Well, you don’t want your first pass play of the game
to be a 60 yard bomb. Because what happens if it’s
an incompletion? Your quarterback is going to start
doubting himself.
And if he starts to get into his own head then bad
things start to happen.
19
But if you get your quarterback an easy completion,
then his confidence will go up.
A confident quarterback is a great quarterback
Great quarterbacks lead great offenses.
So how are we going to figure out what YOUR best
screens are?
By doing the same thing we’ve been doing….diving
into the data.
You are going to get all the data from every screen
concept you run and then answer the following
questions:
● What’s the highest completion percentage?
● What’s the lowest completion percentage?
● Most explosive?
● Least explosive?
● Most touchdowns?
● Least touchdowns?
● Most yards per attempt?
20
● Least yards per attempt?
After you get all those stats, you are going to pick
the two most productive screens and go all in with
them.
What was our offense’s best screens?
Quick wide receiver screens and the slow running
back screen.
“Is that it?” you ask.
HECK NO!!!
You’re going to come up with a fake for each of the
screens.
For example, we fake our quick wide receiver screen
and throw it deep. We also tag our slow running
back screen to our quick game.
21
Doing these two things helps us APPEAR complex
to the defense YET keeps things simple for our
players.
What happens after you do this?
BOOM!
You just developed your 6 plays for the 6-Play
System!
22
Conclusion
Congratulations.
You did it.
Not that many coaches read all the way through
bottom.
So let me tell you something...You’re a beautiful
bastard!!!!
You went all the way through…
You dove into your data….
And you created your OWN 6-Play System.
Now you can go on social media and brag about
how YOUR OFFENSE is dominating defenses.
But what if you want more help?
