Q1: What are the main activities supported under the programme?

 
A1: The main activity supported under the programme is preparation of
books/monographs/state-of the art reports.
 
Q2: What is the upper age limit to apply for the scheme?
 
A2: After superannuation, Scientists upto the age of 67 years can apply for the scheme.
 
Q3: Will SERB support the cost of publication?
 
A3: No, SERB will not support the cost of publication.
 
Q4: What are the documents required to submit the proposal?
 
A4: The following documents are required to be submitted with the proposal:

Q5: How much honorarium will be paid to the investigator?
 
A5: The investigator will get honorarium of Rs.20,000/- per month for two years.
 
Q6: Is it possible for investigator to change the institute? If yes, what is the
procedure?
 
A6: Yes, investigator can change the institute and for doing so he/she should submit the
letter of endorsement from the new institute along with the NOC from the previous institute.
 
Q7: How many copies of the published book investigator have to be submitted to the
SERB?
 
A7: Investigator should submit three copies of the published book to the SERB.
 
Q8: What are the documents required for the release of next installment of grant?
 
A8: For the release of next installment of grant the investigator should submit financial
papers in format (from the date of start of the project to 31st March of next year) along with
the progress.
 
Q9: How many percent of overhead charges will institute get?
 
A9: Institute will get the 15% overhead charges.
 
Q10: When Can I get my second release and how much?
 
A10: Second release is made after one year from the start of the project in a financial year,
after presentation of the successful progress of the work by the PI in front of the
Management Advisory Committee (MAC). The amount released in the second installment will
be equal to total sanction amount minus grant released till date minus 10% of the total
project cost.
 
Q11: When will the PI get balance 10% of the sanction grant?
 
A11: The 10% amount (unreleased sanctioned amount) available with the DST for release
will be reimbursed to the institute after completion of the project duration, receipt of the
three copies of the published book and financial papers for the total duration of the project
till the extended period by the department of the project duration, if any. Any expenditure
done after the prior approval of formal extended duration of the project will not be
reimbursed by DST.
 
Q12: How can the book be acknowledged of the grant received from SERB?
 
A12: The book/monograph when published should also acknowledge the support of SERB
under USERS Scheme with the following note:

Q13: Will the cost of three copies of the book will be paid by DST?
 
A13: No, it is mandatory for the Principal Investigator to forward three published books.
 
Q14: In whose favour should the remaining unspent grant be forwarded after
completion of the project duration (if any)?
 
A14: The unspent grant should be forwarded in favour of ‘Fund for Science & Engineering
Research’ through Demand Draft.
 
Q15: From where can I get the format for the financial papers?
 
A15: The format for the financial papers are available at SERB website.
