Spinning Process

The document discusses the process of converting cotton fibers into yarn. It describes the key steps in cotton spinning which include blow room to open and clean fibers from bales, carding to further clean fibers and align them, and drawing to produce an even sliver of fibers through doubling and drafting. The goals are to clean fibers, remove short fibers, straighten and align fibers parallel to each other to produce yarn for fabric production.

Spinning
The act or processing used to convert staple
or short lengths of fiber into continuous yarns
Fiber extrusion or conversion of filaments
from Polymers was also considered as
“Spinning”.
Spinning process is varying depending on the
fibre types which we want to process. There
are different methods of spinning for yarn
preparation.

The process of converting cotton fibres

from ginned lint into a yarn involves a
number of processes that aim to
clean,
remove short fibres,
align fibres and
ultimately spin the yarn and
prepare it for delivery.

YARN
➢Defined as “A textile yarn is an assembly of
substantial length and relatively small cross-
section of fibres and/or filaments with or
without twist.”
➢ The properties of the yarn employed greatly
influence the appearance, texture, and
performance of the completed fabric.
The results of various spinning mill processes that help to clean, remove
short fibres, align fibres and ultimately produce yarn.

Essential conditions for yarn

COTTON SPINNING SYSTEM
manufacture
Fibres should be;
➢ Free from all impurities
➢Uniform as possible
➢Straightened out and free of any entanglements
➢Laid side by side parallel to each other
➢Individualized and have enough cohesion to stick
together as a one unit

Lap formation
BaleLap carding
• Carding is one of the most important
operations in the spinning process as it
directly determines the final features of the
yarn, above all as far as the content of neps
and husks are concerned.

There are many objectives of the carding
process and these can be summarized as:
• Opening the tufts into individual Fibres.
• Eliminating all the impurities contained in the
Fibre that were not eliminated in the previous
cleaning operations.
• Selecting the Fibres on the basis of length,
removing the shortest ones.
