Assignment 1: Key Issues or Challenges in the Education of

PWDs in the Philippines

What do you think are the key issues or challenges in the education of
PWDs or Children with Special Needs? Give 5 issues/challenges based
on your personal insights.

Physical infrastructure and social programs play an essential role in

assisting impaired children in fully engaging in school activities.
Wheelchairs, accessible buildings, and public transit, as well as the
availability of various tools, are all required. All the facilities provide a
link between the individual and their surroundings. Financial constraints
and a lack of teaching resources are two further issues that have been
present in most of the situation. In addition, the significance of having
qualified teachers and providing a conducive atmosphere for students.
Most of these children were accepted to special schools based on
medical diagnoses, rather than taking into consideration how each of
them functioned, their specific educational needs, and the impact of the
environment on them at the micro, macro, and meso levels.
Moreover, the absence of educational facilities is the most significant
educational barrier that CWDs face. Trained sign language teachers,
Braille, and other educational tools are among them. Also, another issue
was that the teaching material was not designed to meet the requirements
of people with disabilities. According to a few, these children are more
interested in vocational training, which they were not pursuing as much
as they had hoped. The overall design of the problem should be
completed to fix some of the highlighted faults, and the government
must address financial challenges for the program to continue.
Furthermore, increasing awareness is essential for the program as it will
change the way the community opinions CWDs. Often, the CWDs
educational system will aid in obtaining accurate data on progress made
and mishaps encountered, ensuring that the program achieves the desired
outcome. Equal treatment of CWDs is key to the program's success.
Lastly, CWDs require the support of their respective parents and
communities. Regrettably, they are marginalized and discriminated
against both at school and at home. Their families must be supportive
and helpful by providing counseling and other forms of assistance.
CWDs may be able to overcome some of the challenges they faced if
they receive school and family support.
