I will give three (3) minutes to finish the

Scales of Measurement.

C. Lesson Proper

Ok class, today we discuss the Scales of

Measurement.

What is measurement?

For example:
 Height in centimeters
 Weight in pounds
 Age in years
 Temperature in Celsius
 I.Q. scores. (the student will read)

Measurements are classified into four (4):

1. Nominal
- It is a measurement of scale that
classifies elements into two or more
Categories or Names.
- There’s no order.

For example:
 Gender – female and male
 Eye color - blue, brown, black,
green, hazel
 Blood Type- A, B, AB, OB

2. Ordinal – order, position, rank

- It is a measurement of scale that
ranks individuals in terms of the
degree to which they possess a
characteristics of interest.
- It is ordered from least to most.

For example:
 Miss Philippines results
–(first runner up,
Second runner up,
Third runner up).
 Medical condition
– (satisfactory, serious,
guarded, and critical).
 Sibling order – (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th).

3. Interval
- It is a numeric scales in which both
the order and the exact differences
between the values.
Note: There is no absolute zero in the
scale.

For example:
 Aptitude score from 80-90 are of
equal difference as aptitude scores
from 90-100.
The interval is 10.
 I.Q. score
80 – 84 are equal difference as
85 – 89. The interval is 4.
4. Ratio
- obtained by measuring
- It has order, exact values, interval
and there is natural zero.
Note: Has an absolute zero in the scale

For example:
 weight in pounds
 height in centimeters
 Body Temperature
 Length
 Rate of doing work
 Amount of money deposited in the
bank.

D. Generalization
