Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

A. Distinguish the rules on different operation of integers.

B. Construct a mathematical equation using the four (4) operations of integers.
C. Recognize the importance of using integers in real life.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Operation on Integers

B. References: Mathematics 7: Math Master pp. 121-122, Mathematics In Daily Life 7 pp. 145-147
C. Materials: chalk, blackboard, cartolina, printed materials, visual aids, laptop, PowerPoint
Presentation
D. Values: To develop the critical thinking, collaboration, determination and patience of the
students.

III. LEARNING EXPERIENCES:

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill:
Before we start our day, let us have first a math trick. Do you want a math
trick??

So get any piece of paper and ball pen. Write your month number from you
birthday. For example, if your birthday is June then your month number is 6.

Then, multiply by 5. Next, add 6.

Multiply the total by 4. Add 9.

Multiply by 5 once again.

Then, add your birth date. If you were born on the 14th, then add 14.

And last, subtract 165. You will be surprise cause you will have the month
and day you were born.

2. Review:

What Is an Integer?

An integer is a number with no decimal or fractional part, from the set of negative
and positive numbers, including zero. Examples of integers are: -5, 0, 1, 5, 8, 97, and
3, 043.

What is a positive integers?

Positive Integers: A number that lies on the right side of number line and has a
positive sign(it is also a positive number if it doesn’t have a sign). Example: 1, 2, 3 . .
.These numbers are greater than zero.

What is a negative integers?

Negative Integers: A number that lies on left side of the number line and has
negative sign. Example: -1, -2, -3 . . . These numbers are lesser than zero.

What is a zero integer?

Zero is defined as neither negative nor positive integer. It is a whole number.

What is a number line?

A number line can be defined as a straight with numbers placed at equal or

segments along its length. It can be extended infinitely in any direction and is usually
represented horizontally as seen in the picture.

B. Develpomental Activities
1. Motivation
“Human Number Line”

The teacher will extend his arms side ward to make a number line and ask questions to
the students.

Which side of the arm lies the negative integers?

Which side of the arm lies the positive integers?
What integer lies in the center of the number line?

2. Presentation and Discussion of the Lesson

Now, let us start our discussion.

Today we are going to discuss the four operations on Integers. What are the four
operations on integers?

In this lesson you will learn how to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and
division of integers.

Addition is a mathematical operation that explains the total amount of

objects when they are put together in a collection.

Subtraction is the arithmetic operation that is the opposite of addition.

Subtraction is used when you want to know how many objects are left in the group after you
take away a certain amount of objects from that group.
Multiplication is the third basic math operation. When you multiply two
numbers, this is the same as adding the number to itself as many times as the value of the other
number is.

Division is the fourth basic math operation. Basically, you can say that
dividing means splitting objects into equal parts or groups.

3. Fixing Skills

Now, let us discuss the first the multiplication and division of integers for
they have the same rules as seen in the picture.

Now answer these examples:

1. -5 x 6 = ?
2. -2 x (-4) = ?
3. 4 x (-1) = ?
4. -3 ÷ 3 = ?
5. -21 ÷ (-7) = ?
6. 18 ÷ (-9) = ?

Now lets proceed to addition and subtraction of integers for they have
also the same rule as seen in the picture.

Now answer these examples:

1. 1 + 2 = ?
2. -3 + 4 = ?
3. 11 + (-8) = ?
4. -9 - (-11) = ?
5. 4 - (-4) = ?
6. 27 - 11 = ?

4. Generalization

What are the 4 operations of integers?

The 4 operation of integers are addition, subtraction, multiplication,
division.

What are the rules for addition and subtraction of integers?

A. If both bigger and smaller number are positive, then add the two
numbers and retain the positive symbol.
B. If both bigger and smaller number are negative, then add the number and retain
the negative symbol.
C. If the bigger number is positive and the smaller number is negative, then find
the difference of the numbers and use the symbol as positive (symbol of bigger
number).
D. If the bigger number is negative and the smaller number is positive, then find
the difference of the numbers and use the symbol as negative (symbol of bigger
number).

What are the rules of multiplication and division of integers?

When multiplying/dividing integers with the same sign either they are
both negative or positive, the result is positive. When
multiplying/dividing integers with different sign, the result will be negative.

5. Application

A group activty!

Since you already understand our lesson, Let us have our final activity. In this
activity, we will measure your creativity. Since you already have your respective
group I will no longer grouped you. This is you’re activity. You will construct a 3 example
of integer with solution. So I have here a brief case, inside the brief case is
the operation in integer, you will pick a brief case and you will open it to know the
operation that you will used in your example. And another thing is you will going
to prepare a yell. Before you present your output you re going to have a yell first.
Class I will only give you 3 minutes to do the task and 2 minutes to each to
present your output and yell.
Is that clear?

Representative of each group come here in front and pick your brief case.

Ok class, I will grade you by group and make sure you will have a
participation. Here are the criteria on grading.

CRITERIA PERCENT
AGE
Content 50%
Participatio 30%
n
Creativity 10%
Yell 10%
TOTAL 100%

You may now proceed to your group.

I will set a timer, and when you here the word times up, finished or not you
need to go back to your proper sit.

Times up!

Now let’s have group number one.

Thank you group 1.

Now, group 2 presents your work.

Thank you group 2.

Now, Group 3 presents your work.

Thank you Group 3.

And the last but definitely not the least, group 4 presents your work.

Thank you group 4.

Okay class, since you enjoy our activity, give yourselves a good Job clap.

Here is your grades:

Group 1 got %
Group 2 got %
Group 3 got %
Group 4 got %

Again give your self around of applause for a job well done.

IV. EVALUATION:

Since you now have full of knowledge, get your ball pen and 1whole sheet of pad paper
and answer the problem below.
DIRECTION: Read each question carefully. Choose the letter of the correct answer and
write it on the space provided before each number.
