Assignment No. 2 - Air Compressor

An air compressor converts air into high pressure air through a process of compression and cooling. It takes in air through an inlet valve where the air is compressed, raising its pressure and temperature. It then passes through an intercooler to reduce the temperature before being compressed again, resulting in high pressure air output. The temperature of the air rises with increased pressure during compression, so it must be reduced through cooling to allow for further safe compression.

ASSIGNMENT 2

• Half sheet of paper

• To be submitted next meeting

• Describes an air compressor, How it produce a high pressure air.

An air compressor is a device that converts air or gases into energy which will then be
further transformed into mechanical energy allowing machines to function. An air compressor
produces high pressure air through several processes. The first process is that the air or gas will
enter through the inlet valve and there the volume will be compressed causing the pressure to
rise. Next, it will move through the intercooler which will have its temperature reduced. When
the temperature of the gas reduces it will be easier to compress. After that it will be
compressed once again and the end result will be a high pressure air.

• How temperature is treated in an air compressor because pressure is directly

proportional to temperature?

The temperature of the air in a compressor is definitely high as the temperature is

directly proportional to the pressure. The reason behind why the temperature of the gas or air
is high in an air compressor is because when the gas or air is being compressed, there will be a
rapid movement of molecules which will then compress them resulting to a high temperature.
