Presentation Tools

Presentation tools like PowerPoint and Google Slides are commonly used for creating presentations in higher education to improve English learning. PowerPoint has advantages like easy to use templates and animations, but disadvantages include technical errors and requiring an ongoing subscription. Google Slides is free to use, automatically saves files, and is accessible across platforms, but has limited themes and animations compared to PowerPoint. PowerPoint may not be the best option when accessibility across platforms is important or if an ongoing subscription is not desired, in which case Google Slides could be a better choice. As an audience member, too many animations and transitions in a presentation can be distracting and take attention away from the speaker's message.

Presentation Tools

Presentations have an important role in higher education and are the fantastic ways to improve English
learning experience. Following are the soft wares that are commonly used for making presentations:

PowerPoint
Advantages:
PowerPoint is the leading software for making presentations. One of the major advantages of PP is that it
is very easy to operate. It has very unique, colorful, and attractive designs and built-in templates. Slides
can easily be dragged to change the order. PowerPoint also allows us to add other parts of documents like
spreadsheets, charts, and graphics. The animations and transitions are of unique type and have multiple
options to select to attract the viewers and because of that, it can make the presentation more interesting.
Generally, the PowerPoint slides are easier to see by the large audience when projected. It can reduce the
complex and complicated data into simple bullet points. Bullet points are basics of presentation as it helps
the speaker in reminding main points and organize the message. PP is all based on its users that how vast
one can use it. Every function that expertise demands are found in PP and ideal presentations are made
through PP.
Disadvantages:
In disadvantages of PP, the first one will be a technical error. Sometimes the computer stops working or
you lose power, and sometimes the overhead display doesn’t work. The second one would be, you cannot
make the slides with too much information like several colors, designs, shapes, sounds, and many other
items. If you do so, the document would be overwhelmed. Since PowerPoint is part of office 365, you
cannot get owning a license for one specific cost. You must pay a monthly or annual subscription to get
an office 365 license. So, the costs are always ongoing. It has no cross-platform availability. This
application has some limitations and might not be available on several platforms.

Google Slides
Advantages
Google slides is another application for making presentations. Considering its pros, the first and the
important point is that this is all free to use. Most presentation soft wares cost monthly or annual
subscriptions, but this application is all free. Then, this is a web-based application, which means that it
doesn’t require downloading the software. All you need is a web browser and a steady internet
connection. Another point is, it saves the document automatically. Sometimes you make a document with
a lot of data in it and you forget to save it, google slides will save it for you automatically unlike other
soft wares like PP because you have to save documents there on your own. This application can also work
in offline mode. Sometimes the internet might not be available then this offline option would work. For
that matter, you have to activate google offline mode and then you can use it. This application has cross-
platform availability. You are using windows today and moving towards mac after some time, you can
easily do that.
Disadvantages
First of all, a google account is required to use this application. You cannot use it if you don’t have a
google account. Secondly, it has a limited number of themes unlike PowerPoint as it has unlimited themes
available offline and online. It also has a limited number of transactions and animations. This is one of the
things that make presentations attractive to viewers but google slides are lacking in it. Although it is free
to use, it lacks some advanced features that are easily available in soft wares like PowerPoint.

Particular situation

PowerPoint might not be available on several platforms. For example, the PowerPoint of android or
windows. Android hasn’t such features that windows do. In this situation, Google Slide might be called
over PowerPoint as it can be accessed through every platform and very easy to use. Whether it's android,
mac, or windows, it can be accessed easily through every platform. A Monthly subscription can also be
the situation in which Google Slide might be called over PowerPoint. Because Google Slide is completely
free of cost but PowerPoint requires a monthly or annual subscription to use.

Audience member experience

I had a personal experience as an audience member in the university classroom. In that case, the presenter
had used a lot of animations and transitions in PowerPoint. Animations and transitions can indeed create
attractiveness and emphasis, but using too many animations and transitions can be annoying. When you
have got the objects that are flying or moving in and out of the slide, the audience will lose attention as it
is so unprofessional. A presenter must use one or two animations or transitions and stick to them
throughout the presentation. Those flying in and out animations make the audience distracted and they
don’t listen to the presenter what he has to say.
