Cons Pros: What Is Genetic Engineering?

Genetic engineering allows scientists to alter genes in living organisms. It has the potential to benefit species through modifications that increase disease and pest resistance or produce new foods. However, there are also risks like unintentionally creating new allergens, disrupting ecosystems through stronger modified organisms, or reducing antibiotic effectiveness if antibiotic-resistant genes are transferred. Carefully considering these pros and cons is important as genetic engineering advances.

THE PROS AND CONS OF

WHAT IS GENETIC ENGINEERING?

Genetic engineering is the process which allows scientists to alter the structure of
genes in a living organism. Through the use of deliberate modifications that occur
because of a direct manipulation of DNA, it becomes possible to create changes
in life forms to benefit each species and any others that may interact
with them in some way. Genetic engineering technology has the
potential to save millions of lives while also bearing the potential to
cause significant harm. This is why a careful evaluation of these pros
and cons proves vital as global society continues to advance.
