PROJECT TYPE

The project to be implemented will be under the training,


sustainable entrepreneurship, and agricultural type of project. The
project includes training participants, capacity building, and
planting of crops.

RATIONALE

The present condition of Barangay Talon-Talon’s youth sector is


that they are unemployed and have no way of feeding their
families. Brought upon by the pandemic, the agriculture and the
employment rate of the Zamboanga community, particularly in
Talon-Talon, has been decreasing rapidly. Talon-Talon’s land may
be divided into three: the land is used for farming, salt bed, and
residential. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (2020),
the unemployment rate of the Philippines rose to 17.7%,
accounting for 7.3 million unemployed Filipinos recently.
Furthermore, with the community of Zamboanga being reliant on
agriculture, fishery, and consumer staples, it is undeniably
disheartening for the barangay to have a decrease in the
agricultural sector. When a community that has abundant lands
lacks agricultural and consumer staples sectors, the economy of
the place would decrease, leading to unemployment and poverty.

Agriculture is not perceived as financially rewarding when talking


about the youth’s lack of access to resources and ownership. Due
to the idea that the agricultural practices are slow in terms of time,
the youth are discouraged from venturing into the agricultural
sector. As a youth advocate and a youth ambassador of
Zamboanga City, I have come up with the agricultural
entrepreneurship project for the youth sector in Barangay Talon-
Talon. Training will be held, seeds for the crops will be given, and
the community farm or garden will be determined. The concept of
the project is quite different from the norm. A part of the harvests
will be given to the participants as food, and the other part will be
given to them as products for them to sell. (Paragraph continued

RATIONALE

This project will address four (4) Sustainable Development Goals,


mainly, no poverty—as the project will give them means of earning
money, no hunger—as the project will give them food source, like
vegetables to cook and eat, good health—as the project includes
planting and harvesting of vegetables full of nutrients, and
sustainable cities and communities—as this project creates
business opportunities and builds resilient economies.

Empirical researches have shown positive comments and


conclusions regarding agri-entrepreneurship. Rao and Kumar
(2016) emphasize that Agripreneurship development helps the
economy to leverage the identified strengths and contributes the
rural development. Furthermore, they stated that agripreneurship
will give excellent results at the rural and macro levels. Sharma
(2020) has also exemplified that agripreneurship helps in
alleviating poverty by reducing unemployment in a certain
community. As the research was conducted in India, Sharma
(2020) stated that it helps in checking the migration of rural youth
workforce, thus reducing the population in urban cities. Moreover,
Sharma (2020) also conveyed that having agripreneurship will have
a huge impact on the national income by employing the various
sectors of the society. Lastly, Bairwa et al. (2014) have established
that agripreneurship is a necessity for improving productivity in
agriculture and allied sectors.

RATIONALE

Taking everything into account, the agripreneurship project’s long-


term impacts are mainly on the livelihood of the participants, food
source of the participants, and economy of the community. The
livelihood of the participants will be taken care of, as the project
will be entrepreneurship-based and will help them rise from the
poverty line. The food source of the participants will also be taken
care of, as some of the harvests will be given to them. Lastly, the
economy of the community will improve because of additional jobs
and additional taxes for the government.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of the project, the participants will:
a. have the skills on how to plant and harvest crops;
b. have food and income sources; and,
c. help the community’s economic boom.

PROJECT OUTLINE
The project will implement the following procedures:

A. A letter will be sent to the Barangay Captain in the conduct of


the project.
B. Upon the approval of the Barangay Captain, a meeting will be
held to discuss the identified participants, identified community
farm, identified volunteer trainers, date of training, and date of
preparing the community farm.

C. Once the final plan is finished, a letter and message will be
sent to the identified trainers for the planting and harvesting of
crops and identified participants. At the same time, hired workers
will set up the community farm with soil and fertilizers.
D. The whole day training will be conducted with the trainers and
the participants.
E. After the training, five days will be used for the preparation for
the seeds and final orientation for the participants. A contract will
be signed by the participants saying that they will pursue this
project and livelihood and will continue to take care of the farm.
F. After signing the contract, the seeds will be given to the
participants and the farming will commence.
G. Since the project is sustainable, the project will happen
throughout their lives from the day it has commenced.
H. The results of the project will be constantly monitored and
evaluated.

MONITORING &
EVALUATION
The main tools for the monitoring and evaluation of the project will
be based off on the before, during, and after parts of the project.
The “before” determines the life and the community’s economy
before the project started. The “during” includes determining how
the skills of the participants are enhanced through observations.
The “after” talks about the progress of the crops and the income
gained after two months. Survey forms will also be given out
during and after the project. The survey form will contain a Likert
scale, wherein the participants will answer a list of questions
regarding their livelihood, quality of life, and the participants’
opinion on the project. Observations will be made from time-to-
time on the community farm/garden.
