About:

Cisco Packet Tracer is a comprehensive networking technology teaching and learning tool that
offers a unique combination of realistic simulation and visualization experiences, assessment,
activity authoring capabilities, and multiuser collaboration and competition opportunities.
Innovative features of Packet Tracer will help students and teachers collaborate, solve
problems, and learn concepts in an engaging and dynamic social environment.
Benefits:

• Provides a realistic simulation and visualization learning environment that supplements

classroom equipment, including the ability to see internal processes in real-time that are
normally hidden on real devices.
• Enables multi-user, real-time collaboration and competition for dynamic learnin.g
• Enables authoring and localization of structured learning activities such as labs,
demonstrations, quizzes, exams, and games.
• Empowers students to explore concepts, conduct experiments, and test their understanding of
network building.
• Allows students and teachers to design, build, configure, and troubleshoot complex networks
using virtual equipment.
• Supports a variety of teaching and learning opportunities such as lectures, group, and
individual labs, homework, games, and competitions.
• Supports feature expansion through external applications using an API to enhance Cisco
Packet Tracer's functionality in areas such as curriculum and assessment delivery, games,
accessibility, and interfacing with real equipment.

Installation Process:

1. First, we download Packet Tracer from any browser. This is also called Cisco Packet
Tracer.

Router:
A router is a switching device for networks, which is able to route network packets, based on
their addresses, to other networks or devices.
A router receives and sends data on computer networks. Routers are sometimes confused
with network hubs, modems, or network switches.

Router is used for internet access, for coupling networks or for connecting branch offices
to a central office via VPN (Virtual Private Network).

Router give internet to computer through signal wire or wireless technique. Wireless
signal match with receiver computer through IP address. IP address is given to
receiver computer through router. Example: Router give 192.168.8.1 IP address to
receiver computer. Computer receive this IP address through security key. Every
router has different security key.
Information:
• A router is used in LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network)
environments. For example, it is used in offices for connectivity.

• It shares information with other routers in networking.

• It uses the routing protocol to transfer the data across a network.
• Furthermore, it is more expensive than other networking devices like switches and
hubs.

Types of Router:

1. Wireless Router
2. Brouter
3. Core Router
4. Edge Router
o Subscriber Edge Router
o Label Edge Router
5. Broadband Router

Benefits:

➢ Security
➢ Performance Enhacement
➢ Reliability
➢ Networking Range

Note:

A router is also a networking device that sends the data from one network to another network with the
help of their IP addresses. A router is capable of connecting the LAN and WAN.

Bridge:

A bridge is a networking device that is used to connect two local area networks (LANs) by
using media access control addresses and transmit the data between them. ... It sends data based
on the IP address of a device. The bridge has only one port to connect the device. The router
has several ports to connect the devices.

A network bridge is a computer networking device that creates a single, aggregate network
from multiple communication networks or network segments. This function is called network
bridging. Bridging is distinct from routing.

Bridge send data to Hub, lots of nodes connect with Hub. All nodes receive all kind of
information with the help of Hub. All information is available in hub. In simple way, we say
Bridge connect two or more hubs between them.
A network bridge is a device that divides a network into segments. Each segment represents
a separate collision domain, so the number of collisions on the network is reduced. Each
collision domain has its own separate bandwidth, so a bridge also improves the network
performance.

Types of Bridge:

There are three types of bridge in Networking..

1. Transparent Bridge
2. Translational Bridge
3. Source-route Bridge

Gateway:
The gateway converts information, data or other communications from one protocol
or format to another.
A gateway is a network node used in telecommunications that connects two networks
with different transmission protocols together. Gateways serve as an entry and exit
point for a network as all data must pass through or communicate with the gateway
prior to being routed.

The primary advantage of using a gateway in personal or enterprise scenarios is

simplifying internet connectivity into one device. In the enterprise, a gateway node
can also act as a proxy server and a firewall.

Types of Gateway:

1. Web Application Firewalls

2. Cloud Storage Gateways
3. API , SOA
4. IoT Gateways
5. Media Gateways
6. VoIP Trunk Gateways

Additional, service provider can make your own personal gateway can be used for
customers. Example: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has an Amazon API Gateway that
allows a developer to connect non-AWS applications to AWS back end resources.
