This document discusses different types of rectifiers and transistors. It explains that a half-wave rectifier only allows one half of the AC cycle to pass to the load, while a full-wave rectifier converts both halves of the AC cycle to produce DC with less pulsing. Common examples of rectifiers are found in phone and laptop chargers. It also defines Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) as current-controlled, three-terminal devices that use both electrons and holes. Qno1)

Rectifiers is the electronics component which perform rectification simply,

Rectification is the conversion of alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC).

A half-wave rectifier is a circuit that allows only one half-cycle of the AC voltage waveform to be applied
to the load, resulting in one non-alternating polarity across it. The resulting DC delivered to the load
“pulsates” significantly.

A full-wave rectifier is a circuit that converts both half-cycles of the AC voltage waveform to an unbroken
series of voltage pulses of the same polarity. The resulting DC delivered to the load doesn’t “pulsate” as
much.

Polyphase alternating current, when rectified, gives a much “smoother” DC waveform (less ripple
voltage) than rectified single-phase AC.

BJT

A Bipolar Junction Transistor (also known as a BJT or BJT Transistor) is a three-terminal semiconductor
device consisting of two p-n junctions which are able to amplify or magnify a signal. It is a current
controlled device. The three terminals of the BJT are the base, the collector and the emitter. A BJT is a
type of transistor that uses both electrons and holes as charge carriers.

MOSFET

The MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) transistor is a semiconductor device
that is widely used for switching purposes and for the amplification of electronic signals in electronic
devices.  A MOSFET is either a core or integrated circuit where it is designed and fabricated in a single
chip because the device is available in very small sizes.  The introduction of the MOSFET device has
brought a change in the domain of switching in electronics.

IGBT

IGBT stands for insulated-gate bipolar transistor. It is a bipolar transistor with an insulated gate terminal.
The IGBT combines, in a single device, a control input with a MOS structure and a bipolar power
transistor that acts as an output switch. IGBTs are suitable for high-voltage, high-current applications.

DIODE

A diode is a two-terminal electronic component that conducts electricity primarily in one direction. It
has high resistance on one end and low resistance on the other end.

Diodes are used to protect circuits by limiting the voltage and to also transform AC into DC.
Semiconductors like silicon and germanium are used to make the most of the diodes. Even though they
transmit current in a single direction, the way with which they transmit differs. There are different kinds
of diodes and each type has its own applications.
