The fist bridge welding specification was published separsely a 1936. The two documents were consolidated in 1972 in the D1.1 document but were once again depuated in 1988 when the jolt AASHTO/AWS DLS, Bridge Welding Code, was published to address the specific requirements of State and Feder ‘Transporation Departments. Coincident with his, the D1.1 code changed references of buildings and bridges to sta cally loaded and dynamically loaded structures, respectively, in order to make the document applicable to a broader range of structural configurations. Uncertined text in the subsections, tables, or figures indieates an editorial or technical change from the 1998 edition. A ventical Line in the margin next toa figure drawing indicates a revision from the 1998 editions 1 fellowing is a summa most significan: technical revisions contained in D1.1:2000: The SI Units of the 1998 edition have been revised ia the 2000 edition. These new unis rationalize ‘metric numbers so that these quantiles represent s system independent of the U.S. Customary Units, Therefore, users should net attempt to mix unit systems since there ly be a direct conversion equivalence. Subsection 1.1.1(4}-Users are advised to use the new code, AWS D1L6, Structural Welding Code—Stainless Stee, when weling stainless steel structures. ‘Table 3.1—New base metals, base metal groups, and electrodes have been added, ‘Table 32—New base metals have been added. Also, the previous minimum temperature designations that indicated ‘Ro prehe was required have been replaced with temperature limits, ions 4.1.1.2, 4.1.2.1—These provisions describe the method by which AWS B2.1, Standard for Welding Pro cedure and Procedure Qualification, ad the AWS B2.1.XXX.XX, Standard WPSs, can be used for DL work, Subsection 5.22.2—ASTM A 10973 and Ts (backing ring material) hes been approved for backing, Subsection $.5— Welding personnel are now requlred to be informed in the use of WPSs, ‘Subsection 5.28-—Limilted caulking hes been approved in order to prevent coating failures. ‘Subsection 63.1—Inspectors are required to review WPSs for Code conformance, Subsection 6.23.3—The RC resolution reference block is excluded for calibration purposes. Regulrements for verify. ing UT equipment adequecy are described. Subsection 6.20.1—For thicknesses beyond the permitted range in section 6, Part F, Annex K shall be used, ‘Table 63. tothe limits for undersize fillet welds have been made. Uubseciion 7.2.7—Limits on base metal thickness have been established, le 71—New values for stud properties have been tabularized. Figure 7.3—New requirements have been created. ‘CTable 6 ,1—Commentary has been added to explain the rationale forthe code addr ‘Annex D—Forms D-1 and D-8 for UT unit calibration have been revised. Amex M—New electrodes have been added, Annes O—This new nonmandatory annex contains filler metal tensile and yield strength date extracted from the AWS AS.X specifications. These values ate not to be construed as necessary requirements for prequalification, but are only proviced for convenience, Users must still abide by the limftatlons of Table 3.1 und section 3 WS. Mandatory Annexes. These additions to the code are requirements that supplement the text xi igh een Wing Sei Tigers ae STD-AUS D}-1-ENGL 2000 mm O7B42b5 OS1Eb4 099 om ‘Non-Mandatory Annexes. These annexes are nol requitemenss but re provided as options that are permitted by the code, Though they are not mandatory, it is essential that all provisions of these annexes be followed when the option to ‘use them is exercised, ~ Tadex. As in previous codes, the entries Inthe Index are referred to by subsection number rather than by page num: er. This should enable the user of the Index to locate a particular item of interest in minimum time. Errata, [is the Structural Welding Committes’s Policy that allerata should be made available to users of the code. ‘Therefore, in the Society News Section of the AWS Welding Jourmal, any errata (major changes) that have been noted ‘willbe published in the July and November issues of the Welding Journal, ‘Suggestions.
