Career Action Plan Worksheet 1: Personal Action Plan

Complete the action plan on the following pages (steps 1 to 7).


You may find it helpful to consider your past experience in the following:
● work investigation ∙ work experience
● achievements ∙ personal attributes
● subject selection for High Education ∙ entry requirements for, university, etc
● employer expectations ∙ employability skills.
By completing each section, you can develop some direction, action and goals for the coming years.

Note
You may need to make new plans from time to time, as a result of changing your mind in regard to your career direction.
You may not have a clear picture of your goals. This is normal and people who do have goals now, quite often change their direction and
planning. This action plan will help to get you thinking about your next couple of years and future planning in certain careers.

2. Employability skills I need for employment/career options: problem solving, a small part of mechanical engineering involves
solving clients problems, mechanical engineering is trying to figure out how to make thermal machines and devices work
better, solving these problems takes good skill and can be hard. creativity, mechanical engineers often create new machines
and new projects, mechanical engineers can be making anything from robots to environmentally friendly power transmitters.
another skill uou need is clear communication skills, first some of your colleagues may not be trained as engineers, you will
need to communicate priorities, issues and needs clearly. lastly you need to be good at mathematics, yes you will need
mathematics even though its not a soft skill, many people might classify mathematics as a hard skill but you will need to know
the hard skills of statistics and calculus.

3. Qualifications/training I need for employment/career options: A typical Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering requires
courses in communications which means composition, technical writing, humanities, history language, political science, basic
science which is chemistry, physics. business know as accounting and marketing, mathematics, and basic engineering and
computer skills.
