Module 2 Science Solid Liquid and Gas New

The document is a science module about the three states of matter - solid, liquid, and gas. It begins with an introduction explaining the three states and their properties. The objectives are then listed. Descriptions of each state follow: solids have a fixed shape and size, liquids take the shape of their container but have no fixed shape, and gases fill their container and have no fixed shape or size. The module then explains that the particles that make up matter determine its state, with solids having close particles, liquids having particles that can slide past one another, and gases having particles far apart that move freely. Activities are provided for students to classify examples as solids, liquids or gases, fill in property descriptions,

Three States of Matter

MODULE 2 Solid, Liquid, and Gas

Introduction:
The matter has different characteristics of objects; they are similar
or different. The matter has three states- solid, liquid, and gas. Each
phase has its own properties and characteristics. Matter undergoes
changes that affect its properties and characteristics. These
changes in matter affect your environment.

Objectives:
Learners should be able to:
1. Classify objects and materials as solid, liquid, and gas-based on
some observable characteristics

The matter has 3 forms namely; Solid, Liquid, Gas and each form
have its own properties and characteristics:
A solid has a fixed size and shape.
For example: A book is solid in the shape of a rectangle. A ball a solid
in the shape of a circle.

They can be hard like a hollow block or soft like a blanket.

They can be heavy like a big rock or light like a feather.

They can be hot like a pizza or cold like an icicle.

A Liquid has no fixed shape. It only takes the shape of its container.
For example: Water is a liquid.
It can fill a square pan Water can fill a round bowl

It can also fill a tall glass

A Gas has no fixed shape and size. Just like the liquid it takes only
the shape of its container.
For example: a hot air balloon is filled with gas.

Matter is composed of tiny particles. The particles determine the

properties of matter.

The particles of solids are very close to one another. This is why solids
have fixed shape and size.

The particles of liquids are not that close to each other. They
slide with one another. This is why liquids do not have fixed shape, it
is also the reason why liquids can flow.
The particles of gases are far apart from one another. They can
move freely that is why gases take the shape of their containers.

are true or false.
1. There are 3 states of matter. ________________________________

2. The two states of matter you can see are liquids and solids.

3. All matter has mass and takes up space. ______________________

4. Only non-living things are matter.______________________________

5. Water can be a solid, a liquid and a gas.______________________

6. Solids can change their shape depending on the container that

they are in.
