Deductive Lesson Plan in Math Grade 4

The document outlines a 50-minute lesson plan to teach students how to find the area of a triangle. It includes the objective to have 85% of students able to find and apply the area formula by the end of the lesson. The lesson introduces finding the area of triangles through an interactive game with shapes, reviews the area formula for parallelograms, demonstrates calculating areas of example triangles using the formula A=1/2bh, and concludes with an activity where students work in groups to measure and calculate the areas of different triangles.

III. LEARNING PROCEDURES

Teacher’s Activity Students Activity
A. Preliminary Activities:
1. Prayer
Requesting everyone to please rise for
a prayer.
Ana kindly led the prayer.
Yes, Ma’am.
In the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

2. Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning, Ma’am!

How are you today?

We’re fine and great Ma’am.

Okay! That’s great. You may now take Thank you, Ma’am.
your sit.
3. Checking of Attendance
Are there any absentees for today? Yes Ma’am.

Okay, class secretary kindly list those

students who are absent today. Yes Ma’am.

4. Drill
So, class I am going to group you into
3 groups, we will be going to have a
game.
(4.1) Are you ready?
(4.1) Yes Ma’am!
Okay!
SHOW ME UP WHAT YOU CAN!

Now, we will have a game. Listen to

what I have to say, because I will only
repeat the words twice. Each group
should form the shape I am saying and
introducing to you. When I count to
ten, that shape is already formed.
1. I have four sides and four right (Each group should form a square
angles. What am I? shape)
123…
2. I have 2 same width and 2 same (Each group should form a rectangle
length and my shape is like a TV. shape)
What am I?
123…
3. I am the only shape that have 3 (Each group should form a triangle)
sides, what am I?
123…

Very good students!

Let’s give yourselves five good job
claps.
Okay! You may now take your sit. Thank you, Ma’am.

5. Review
Before we proceed to our new lesson,
let’s have a review.
(5.1) Our past lesson is all about the
(5.1) Who can still remember our past parallelogram, the formula to find the
lesson? area of parallelogram is A = bh.

Very good!
(5.2) Ma’am, the unit that we use to
(5.2) What is the unit that we use find the area is the square unit.
when we find the area?

Very good!

Let us try to answer this one.

15cm
20cm
(5.1) What is the area of this (5.1) 300cm2
parallelogram?

It’s seeming that you learned from our

last topic, so now let’s proceed to our
new lesson.
6. Motivation
(6.1) Class, what month do you start (6.1) November and December
seeing the Christmas trees? Ma’am.

(6.2) When you saw Christmas trees (6.2) Christmas is coming.

what comes to your mind?

Exactly! When we see Christmas tree

in our home or in mall and other
places it means that Christmas is
coming.

(6.3) What is the common shape of the

(6.3) Ma’am triangle.
Christmas tree?

Yes! The common shape of the

Christmas tree is triangle, now let us
explore about the triangle shape.
B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Class, look at the picture.

(1.1) What shape you can see in the (1.1) Triangle

pictures?

(1.2) How many triangles you can see (1.2) Nine triangles
in the first picture?

(1.3) How about this second picture, (1.3) A cat

what image is formed by the triangle?
a. Setting of Standards
What exactly should we do every Sit properly, don't be loud, listen
time we have a lesson? carefully and do not talk to the
seatmates.

Whoever does not follow will stand

in front and he will replace me as
teacher. Do we understand each Yes ma’am.
other children?
Okay good!

2. Presentation of General Ideas

Okay, very good! Since we’ve done to
finding the area of parallelogram now,
what do you think is our finding for Finding the area of triangle.
today?

Right, today’s topic is about finding the

area of triangle.

So, I have here rectangle colored

paper. It has a length of 15cm and a
width of 10cm. I want to make 2 pieces
out of these paper with triangular
shape.

(2.1) Since I cut it diagonally. What (2.1) Ma’am the shape now is
shape was formed? Triangle.
Exactly! Now this is the half part of the
paper. So, what is the area of this
triangle?

6cm
12.5cm

Now to find the area of the triangle this

is the formula we are going to use

(2.2) So again, what is asked about the

problem?

Solution in finding the area of triangle:

A = ½ x (bxh) (2.2) The area of the triangle Ma’am.
A = ½ x (12.5cm x 6cm)
A = ½ x 75cm
A = 37.5cm2

So, the area of the triangle is 37.5cm2.

3. Discussion of Examples
So, you already know how to get the
area of the triangle.

We have here another example.

(3.1) What numbers are to be used in

finding the area of this triangle?

(3.2) What is the formula in finding the (3.1) b – 4cm and h – 10cm.
area of triangle?

Solution: (3.2) A = ½ x (bxh)

A = ½ x (bxh)
A = ½ x (4cm x 10cm)
A = ½ x 40cm
A = 20cm2

How about if the unknown is the length

of the base? How will you solve that?
Any whole numbers will have an
automatically denominator of 1.

The formula in finding the length of the

base is:

Let us solve for the base of the triangle.

Given:
A = 30in2
H = 5in

Solution:
B = 2A/h
B = 2(30in2)/ 5in
B = 12in

The base of the triangle is 12in.

How about if the unknown is the height

of the triangle? How will you solve that?

The formula in finding the height of the

triangle:

Let us solve for the height of the

triangle.

Who will solve for the height of the

triangle?

Okay student B. (Students will raise their hand)

H = 2A/b
H = 2(16cm2)/4cm
H = 8cm

Very good! Student B. Ma’am the height of the triangle is

8cm.
C. Concluding Activities
1. Restatement of General Ideas
Now let us summarize what we
have learned today. When I call
your name stand up and answer
my questions.

Okay? Yes Ma’am.

(1.1) Class, based on our (1.1) The formula in finding the area
discussion and on the of triangle is A = ½ bh
activity that we had, what
is the formula in finding
the area of triangle?

(1.2) How did we get the (1.2) Deriving the formula for the
formula for finding the area of triangle is area is equal
area of triangle? to ½ times base times height of
the triangle.

2. Application
Class, we will have an activity, same
group you had from the game Yes, Ma’am.
earlier. Got it?

Okay! I prepared 3 stations; each

station consists of materials such as;
ruler, 2 colored triangle shapes in
different sizes, and a clean bond
paper. Each group will go into
different station.

Station 1 will be the group 3.

Station 2 will be the group 1.
Station 3 will be the group 2.

Each group will get the measure of

the colored triangle shape and get
the area of it and then write their
work in a clean bond paper. After
getting the measure of the triangles
and finished getting the area of it,
each group will be going to make a
yell. Each group will be given 15
minutes to finish the activity and
after that each group should post
their work together with the colored
triangle shape in the blackboard and
before explaining their work, they
should present the yell that they
prepare.
Okay well-done students!
Give yourselves a good job clap!

Okay now go to proper sit. Thank you, Ma’am.

3. Valuing
A while ago class, we’ve discussed
about how to find the area of a
triangle and we were able to
determine the area of the triangle
through identifying and measuring
the base and the height of the
triangle.

Class, can you give a triangular A roof Ma’am.

shape that we can see in our
surrounding?

Okay that’s right! Everywhere we

can find a triangular shape. And now
we know how to get the area of it.
We can easily understand why some
triangle shape is not perfect.
