Activity 1.2. Convert Me!

Object Centimeter Inches

1. Soft drink Bottle (1L) 28.45 11.2
2. A sheet of bond paper (long ) 33.02 13.0
3. A slipper( size 10) 25.4 10.0
4. An egg (medium size) 6.35
5. A Ping-Pong ball 4.0 1.57
1. The shortest object among the sample is the ping-pong ball with only 4.0 cm (1.57 inches)
in length while the longest is the sheet of long bond paper with 33.02 cm (13.0 inches) in
length.
2. There are 2.54 cm in 1 inch.
3. Definitely yes because the size of the same materials in different Units of measurement
are the same when you convert it into another.

Activity 1.3. That is My Equivalent

1.False. 2.True. 3.False. 4.False. 5.False.
6.False. 7.True. 8.True. 9.True. 10.False

Activity 1.4. I Fill You

1.Measurements. 2.Units. 3.Convertion factors. 4.Notation. 5.Exponent
6.Positive. 7.Negative. 8.weighing. 9.Volume reading 10.Height

Activity 1.5. Let’s Solve It!

1. Given: 100ft (width), 150ft (length). Unknown: Area in m^2
Formula: (w)(l)=A. Solution: (100) (150) = 15000
Conversion: 1ft = 0.3048 m. (15000) (0.3048) = 4572m^2
Answer: 4572m^2
2. Given: Sun mass= 1.99×10^30 kg, Hydrogen atom mass= 1.67×10^27kg
Unknown: Total of atoms inside the sun (91% of the sun’s mass is composed of
Hydrogen
Formula: Sun mass (0.91) / Hydrogen atom mass = T (total no. Of hydrogen atom)
Solution: (1.99×10^30kg) (0.91) = 1.8109 × 10^30kg
1.8109×10^30 / 1.67×10^27 = 1.8109×10^3 / 1.67 = 1.8109/104 (10^3) =
181090/167 = 1084 (62/167) = 1084.37126
Answer: There are 1084.37126 hydrogen atom inside the sun.
3. Given: 10cm growth per year, Walt = 1.6 , 1cm = 0.01m
Unknown: Length of Walt 1 year ago= ?
Number sentence: (1.6/0.01)-10=?
Solution: (1.6/0.01)-10= 160-10= 150
Answer: One year ago the length of Walt is 150 cm.

2
4. Given: 200 mm, 1mm= 0.1cm. Unknown: length of line in cm= ?
Number sentence: 200 (0.1)= ? Solution: 200 (0.1)= 20 cm
Answer: The length of the line in cm is 20.
5. Given: d=200 yard, S =8.2 ft, 1ft= 0.3333. Unknown: t=?
Formula: d/S= t Solution= 200/0.3333=600.0006 ft
600.0006/8.2= 73.17 ft
Answer: It will take john 73.17 sec. To finish the track.
