Chapter One: Figure (1.1), Showing Main Face For Dideger
Introduction
Digger program is imported and easy program that is use to convert any photographic
copy to digital copy that is useful in the petroleum engineering work. our study will
concentrate on digitizing contour map. Contour map is a representation of the Earth, or
part of it. The distinctive characteristic of a topographic map is that the shape of the
Earth’s surface is shown by contour lines. Contouring line is the most common method
for terrain mapping. Contour line connects points of equal elevation, the contour interval
represents the vertical distance between contour lines, and the base contour is the contour
from which contouring starts. Contour lines are lines drawn on a map connecting points
of equal elevation. The contour line represented by the shoreline separates areas that have
elevations above sea level from those that have elevations below sea level. We refer to
contour lines in terms of their elevation above or below sea level.
Didger
is a digitizing and coordinate conversion software. You can digitize maps, aerial
photographs, graphs, or any other data with Didger. When working with your project,
you can digitize onscreen with your computer's mouse, or digitize directly from a paper
copy using a digitizing tablet.
Uses of Didger
Start processing your data quickly and accurately with Didger. Some applications
for Didger include:
• digitizing points, polylines, and polygons, such as oil and gas wells, monitoring wells,
wireline logs, graphs, contour lines, aerial photographs, satellite images, seismic lines,
roads, property boundaries, buildings, sample locations, faults, rock formations,
vegetation boundaries, and animal habitats.
• calculating areas of polygons, such as watershed or lake areas.
• calculating lengths of polylines, such as shorelines, roads, streams, or migratory routes.
• georeferencing and/or mosaicking aerial photos or scanned images.
• converting the projection of scanned images, vector files, data files, or Surfer GRD or
DEM files.
• overlaying vector, data, and image files to create a complete map.
Digitizing
Digitizing is the process of transferring paper document information, image file
information, or data to your computer. his is accomplished with the use of importing an
image or vector file. Software such as Didger converts the information from the file or
paper document to digital information.

Digitizing Options
There are three ways you can digitize information from your source documents or files.
You can digitize hard copy documents using any Wintab32 compatible digitizing tablet.
You can digitize digital information, such as vector or raster files, onscreen. You can also
use your GPS unit to digitize your position or trace your route directly onto a map
imported into a vector project.
We open the contour map (Buzzergan field map) in the program, and we work with
calibrate image. We add 000 to each of the x, y values, starting with drawing the contour
map using polygon for closed lines and polyline for open lines. The contour lines
(3960,3940,3920,3900,3880.) At the bottom of the contour map are open. The 3960-
contour line is drawn twice for both sides of the contour map, while the contour line 3940
reaches the end of the boundary of the map, cut it and then complete it.
closed line with polygon and open line with polyline then the digitized map has been
exported file.data to appropriate software like petrel, CMG, or surfer.

Aim of study
Chapter one
The main goal is to convert the maps (contour map) from the graphic form to digital form
by using Didger program for Buzurgan oil field.
