The Analysis of Video: (Represent Dog), Nani (You), Naskeleng (Dickhead), Ngamah (Eat), Cai (You)
1. Dialect
There are various dialects existed in Bali, such as; Karangasem dialect,
Klungkung dialect, Tabanan dialect, Buleleng dialect, etc. Based on what is seen
from the video by Puja Astawa entitled “Gara-gara Don Poh Mau Bunuh Orang”,
the dialect which is used by the actors is Buleleng dialect. Actually, Buleleng
dialect is a dialect which comes from Buleleng regency, a regency placed in north
Bali.
Buleleng dialect is a bit different among those dialects existed in Bali. It is
because, people with Buleleng dialect tend to use sarcastic or rude words in their
communication. In Buleleng, it is seen as common thing and people believe that
when they use sarcastic words in their communication, meaning that they have close
relationship among them. The example of the rude words of Buleleng dialect that
can be gotten from the video are; “Cicing”, “Pirata”, “Nani”, “Naskeleng”,
“Awake”, “Ake”, “Jelemane”, “Mrekak”, etc.
2. Characteristic
- The Choice of Vocabulary
The vocabulary used are such kinds of swear words. For example, cicing
(represent dog), nani (you), naskeleng (dickhead), ngamah (eat), cai (you)
- Pronunciation/accent
In terms of pronunciation, Buleleng dialect also different from other
dialects in Bali. People with Buelelng dialect often pronounce the words in
high intonation. Based on the video, it is clearly seen and heard that the
actors speak or pronounce some words with high intonation. Although the
two actors speak with high intonation, they do not feel being offended, yet
they enjoy their conversation. People with Buleleng dialect think that it is
very common to do that thing since it is seen that pronounce words with
high intonation is also marked as having a close relationship among them. If
people with other dialects have very first experience communicating with
people with Buleleng dialect, they may think that people with Buleleng
dialect are angry with them. Actually, they do not. It is just naturally done
by people with Buleleng dialect without intending to be angry. And it is just
a unique characteristic of pronunciation or accent had by people with
Buleleng dialect.
- Syntax
Syntax is the the way to arranged the words into a sentence that has
their own meaning. Actually, words has their own classification, such
subject (S), verb (V), and object (O) that is usually appear in sentence.
Reflects to the video its shows that there so many swear words that we could
found on that video, for examples.
“Kenape nani adi care kuluk ngamah jae nani?’’
“Sebeng gen polos otak kriminal to cai cicing”
Those are the example that we could found in the video. However, if
looking for the structure its includes noun, conjunction, adverb, verb, noun
phrase, and article. First sentence is the type of declarative because the use
of W-question. It’s reflects to the people who talked with the speaker.
‘kuluk’ means animal that is dog but the speaker used those kind of word
choices to refers his friend. Those sentence which is like idiom in English
and have meaning that there is person who likes to make problem with other
person but does not want to find the good resolution. Meanwhile, for the
second sentence means that there is person that have bad attitude. Its have a
bad impact for their environment. Moreover, the speaker used ‘cicing’ to
infer their friend. ‘cicing’ means human in this case.
Furthermore, if looking for the word ‘nani’ or ‘cicing’ it not always refer
to the subject but also can put in one sentence just like the complement. For
example, “Ya ampun, cicing masalah daun poh nagih ngematiang jeleme.”.
‘cicing’ here literary means ‘anjing’ or dog. It could be happened because
the variety of language and dialect. It could impact the use of word choices
in order to produce words or even sentence.
