1.0 Introduction
This document describes how to configure various models of GE’s Automation & Controls’
controllers.
For advanced configurations, please contact the Application Engineer (AE) team.
This configuration is ideal for many applications where a powerful controller is required and the
I/O is concentrated in a local panel.
For small, simple applications with less than 100 I/O, an RSTi-EP controller or VersaMax Micro
controller may be appropriate.
Some applications may use the mid-range or high-end RX3i CPU as follows.
1 IC695CPE310 RX3i CPU Model 310 with serial, Ethernet, 10 Mbytes memory (2
slots)
Or
1 IC695CPE330 RX3i CPU Model 330 with dual Ethernet, 64 Mbytes memory (2 slots)
For applications where more than 40 Watts are required or for PSU redundancy, the following
power supplies are available.
Or
Although the mix of I/O modules can be optimised by choosing different modules to minimise
spares and hence price, most clients prefer to have as few module types as follows.
If the first rack is full, a local expansion rack may be configured by adding components as follows.
Rules on local expansion racks and I/O modules supported can be complex so refer to AE team
for support if required.
Although the mix of I/O modules can be optimised by choosing different modules to minimise
spares and hence price, most clients prefer to have as few module types as follows.
2.8 RX3i Rack-Based Controller With Local I/O System Architecture And Sample BoM

This configuration is ideal for many applications where a powerful controller is required and the
I/O is distributed around a plant or machine.
This configuration is also recommended to overcome issues of support for IC695 modules in local
expansion racks.
For IC695CPE305 and IC695CPE310, a PNC is required as follows. This is built-in to IC695CPE330.
For applications where more than 40 Watts are required or for PSU redundancy, the following
power supplies are available.
Or
Although the mix of I/O modules can be optimised by choosing different modules to minimise
spares and hence price, most clients prefer to have as few module types as follows.
It may be appropriate to have no I/O modules in the CPU rack and use remote I/O instead,

This configuration is ideal for many applications where a powerful, redundant controller is
required and the I/O is either local or distributed around a plant or machine.
For remote I/O, either RX3i or VersaMax I/O may be used depending upon the application. RX3i
I/O is preferred.
4 IC695RMX128 RX3i Reflective Memory Module (2 per CPU, 2 slots, 300 metres)
PNCs are required as follows. IC695CPE330 does have a built-in PNC but this does not currently
support redundancy (due end of 2017).
For applications where more than 40 Watts are required or for PSU redundancy, the following
power supplies are available.

This configuration is ideal for many applications where a powerful controller is required and the
I/O is distributed around a plant or machine.
The RX3i rackless controller also includes an Embedded Field Agent for connection to Predix.
5.3 RX3i Rackless Controller With Remote I/O System Architecture And Sample BoM
A system architecture for an RX3i rackless controller with remote I/O is provided in figure 5.1. A
sample BoM is provided in table 5.1.
Figure 5.1 RX3i Rackless Controller With Remote I/O System Architecture
This configuration is ideal for many applications where a powerful, redundant controller is
required and the I/O is either local or distributed around a plant or machine.
For remote I/O, either RX3i or VersaMax I/O may be used depending upon the application. RX3i
I/O is preferred. RSTi-EP I/O will be supported by the end of 2017.
Note that this solution can be quoted now but will not be available until the end of 2017.
5.3 Redundant RX3i Rackless Controllers With Remote I/O System Architecture And Sample
BoM
A system architecture for an RX3i rackless controller with remote I/O is provided in figure 6.1. A
sample BoM is provided in table 6.1.
Figure 6.1 Redundant RX3i Rackless Controllers With Remote I/O System Architecture
This configuration is ideal for many applications where a low-cost controller is required and the
I/O is distributed around a plant or machine.
7.3 RSTi-EP Controller With Remote I/O System Architecture And Sample BoM
A system architecture for an RSTi-EP controller with remote I/O is provided in figure 7.1. A sample
BoM is provided in table 7.1.
RX3i remote I/O does not support communications modules or expansion racks. Communications
modules must be installed in the main CPU rack. For expansion, use additional remote I/O drops.
Some applications may use the RX3i CEP and CEE follows.
IC695CEP001 RX3i CEP for single IC695 or IC694 module (single slot)
IC694CEE001 RX3i CEE for single IC694 module (single slot)
For applications where more than 40 Watts are required or for PSU redundancy, the following
power supplies are available.
