The Cali's Fair

The Cali's Fair (Dec. 25 - 30) is the most important cultural event in Cali, Colombia. It is a celebration of

the region's cultural identity, famous for the Salsa marathon, horse riding parades and dance parties. The

Fair has been celebrated since 1957, from December 25 to December 30, and it promotes cultural,

ethnical, and musical diversity in the region. Tourism around The Fair is a main driver of the city's

economy during the end of the year.

On August 7, 1956, a great explosion, a tragic event that generated ruins, loss of human lives and a

notable economic recession in the city, succeeded in the city of Cali. The authorities resolved the

following year to organize a fair as an opportunity to overcome the tragedy and an engine of economic

recovery. The first fair included the exhibition and sale of handicrafts, footwear, leather goods, among

others. Over the years the holiday was becoming more important as a reason to visit the city by residents

in other cities, as well as people from all over the country. The strong partying tradition of the city, added

to the variety of shows, opening the door to international tourism.

This festival lasts six days. HOW MANY PEOPLE ATTEND THE CALI FAIR? This festival has at

least 1,500,000 people.

The types of music you hear in this festival are:1 Colombian orquestas carabean sauce WHO IS

The fair costs approximately $ 10,000 million, of which 50% are public contributions of the city.

If you are in Cali dont forget !LETS CHIVA! Party, Drink, Laugh, Clap, Sing, listen to great jokes, Yell,

do Wild and Crazy Things as you enjoy non-stop "Papayera" Live Music and Fun, doing the Chive. Each

Chive Bus has a "Director" with a microphone, and loads of experience in leading you and the rest of the
Chive gang in a whole lotta safe, fun! Relax and enjoy the always open bar. Meet new people, as your

Chive. Bus moves all around Cali. So who Chives? When visiting Cali, everybody Chives.

The Cali Fair is the most important cultural event in Cali, Colombia. It is a celebration of the region’s

cultural identity, famous for the Salsa marathon, horse riding parades and dance parties.

The fair is also known as the ‘Feria de la Caña’ (the sugar cane fair) and ‘Feria de la Salsa’ (Salsa fair).

People enjoy many activities like an opening ‘cabalgata’ (parade of horseback riders), carnival parades,

tascas or restaurant stands, salsa concerts, bullfights, a beauty contest, athletic activities and competitions

and cultural exhibitions.

Carnival parades, beauty contests and sports events, such as the extraordinary Cali River Marathon, which

attracts thousands of participants from all over the country and from abroad, add sparkle to the Fair. There

are also diverse activities for children.

The bank of the Cali River is the epicenter for the ‘fiestas’, with bars and taverns full of lights, music,

gaiety and exquisite cuisine from several countries, where thousands of local inhabitants and visitors

dance until dawn.
