He realized Emperor Akbar was avoiding an issue regarding the washermen. Later, Emperor Akbar grew hungry and asked Birbal about the khichdi being prepared for them. Birbal told the Emperor the khichdi would be ready soon thanks to the warmth from the torches, avoiding having to directly address the earlier issue.
