Introductory Message
Welcome to Science – Grade 7!
The Science Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the leaching-learning
activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with
minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This will be made
available to the learners with the references/links to ease the independent learning.

I. Learning Competency
Predict the effects of changes in abiotic factors on the ecosystem
(S7LT-IIj-12)

IV. Activity Proper
Activity 1
Directions: In two to three sentences, predict the effect of changes in abiotic factors
in ecosystem from a certain events or phenomena. Write your answer on a sheet of
paper.
Situation 1:
A plant from Mambukal that grows better in a low temperature environment
was cultivated and was brought to the city experiences sudden temperature change.
1. What will happen to the plant?

Situation 2:
Water pollution due to industrialization causes water to become rich in minerals.
This condition will result to the increase in population of algae which is also known as
‘algal bloom’. This rapid increase in population of algae could deplete oxygen content
and could affect marine life like fishes, aquatic plants such as algae and other aquatic
species. Moreover, algae plays a role as an indicator to determine if a water ecosystem
is healthy or not.
2. Which organisms in the water will be negatively affected by water pollution? Why?

3. Which water organism will benefit from water pollution due to industrialization?
Why?

4. How would a large population of algae affect the water ecosystem?

Situation 3:
A healthy Grade 7 student named Bon Francis, came from a far-flung
hometown from Barangay Alimatoc. Suddenly he moved to the city because of his
schooling. Upon arrival to the city of Makati, he noticed a big difference of the
environment where he came from. He saw many tall buildings, cars, jeepneys,
motorcycles and other vehicles. He also observed that most vehicles emit black
smoke from its exhaust which he learned to cause smoke belching. Smoke is usually
thick enough to pollute the air and reduce visibility of the commuters and operators.
2
Two days later, he felt that his body weakened and he started coughing and sneezing
and had a little fever.
5. What could be the effect of air pollution to Bon Francis’ body?

6. In general, what determines the type of biotic factors that thrives in an ecosystem?
