SI check

Theory:

TAF:

Decoding everything there, from winds to clouds and if conditions are changing, are they getting
better or worse

METAR:

Difference with TAF (actual reading). RF, rainfall format past 10 minutes/from 0900

// between winds and clouds or any // means no data available

INTER period how much holding fuel? – 30 minutes AIP ENR 1.1 – 11.7.2.4

Know the Phase 1 Theory Check well as he will use that as a guide to ask questions. Below are the
ones he asked in addition to the P1 Check

Know aerodromes in the training area

Rough running engine what to do? Maintain height as much as possible and head to nearest airport

Where to get maintenance that can be carried out by PIC? CAR Schedule 8 or CAR 42zc(4)

PPL recency requirement (I gave the Singapore version but they wanted Australian)

How much oil capacity 9 quarts, 8 + 1 in filter

Type of aileron Differential frise aileron

What connects control column to control surfaces? Cables and pulleys

What medication can be taken without approval? Ibuprofen, paracetamol, mild anticeptics

Starting a medication or changing a dose up or down is a “Change in medical condition” (See CASR
Part 67 definition) and must be reported to your DAME or CASA within 5 days if lasting for more
than:

Class 1: 7 days

Class 2 & 3: 30 days

Approved Medications:

For occasional use in minor, self-limiting ailments lasting < 1 week.

Paracetamol (Panadol™, Panamax™)

Ibuprofen (Nurofen™, Advil™)
Aspirin (Aspro™, Disprin™)
Antacids (Mylanta™, Gaviscon™)
Ranitidine (Zantac™, Rani™)
Laxatives
Suppositories such as Anusol™ or Proctosedyl™
Non-sedating antihistamines:
Fexofenadine/Telfast™
Loratadine/Claratyne™
Desloratadine/Aerius™

Different types of drag Induced, parasitic, interference, skin friction

MR expiry and validity Look at date on top right corner. MR valid for 12 months or 100 hours

Practical:

Know the pax brief. Conduct as a conversation with pax

Did slow flight 65 kts and 60 kts with flaps, then steep turns.

Did IF and UPRTs high nose, low speed and low nose, high speed

Stalls – Clean, Approach, insipient and turning stalls

PFL + EFATO

Circuit join 24R upwind.

Normal, flapless, glide, tower initiated go-around + simulated upwind, short field landing
PPL

Weight and balance + weather brief + PPL brief (tolerances and expectations)

After departure, slow flight 65 and 60 with flaps plus turns to visual positions. Slow flight just need to
demonstrate short duration, no need hold for a few minutes

Steep turns (1 to left and 1 to right) no need to immediately change from right to left. Do lookout
first

Sideslip to descend to murray field + CTAF calls.

Descend dead side and join mid-field crosswind

Normal, flapless at 1100ft, with glide (self simulated).

EFATO need to turn to field and drop flaps as required to reach field (some fields may be further)

Low level circuits at 600ft, flaps 10, 1800rpm to maintain 80kts (adjust power as required).

Can choose to drop flaps at base (need more power) or at finals, straight to 30

Stop and go, then depart out (with departure calls)

Stalls – approach, clean, insipient (HALL checks after each stall)

IF – climbs, straight and level, climbing turn and normal turns

PFL after removal of hood and orientation at 3500 ft. More than enough time to plan and search for
field

Theory

Engine fire upon start up (both engine running and non-running)

All 3 VA speeds 2450 (99kts), 2200 (94kts), 1600 (82kts)

VNE – speed and definition

Cargo weight limit

What to do if sick for more than 20 days – tell CAMB or / and DAME

Privileges of PPL – non remuneration flights as PIC

Medical needed – class 2 for PPL, class 1 for PPL IR
