ABSTRACT
On-the-Job-Training or OJT is a job training that occurs in the work
place. It has many advantages, but it can also have few disadvantages if the
OJT is not planned and executed properly. OJT is a part of a college
curriculum that aims to train and orient students about their work in the future.
As an Agricultural Economics student, the On-the-Job Training provides a
background of what is really going on in a certain office. OJT provides the
opportunity in promoting worthy values and developing strong moral character
among other people in the community. It is one of the factors that are helpful
to the students in enriching and enhancing their knowledge learned at school.
In his two months staying in PSAU, KITS Center, after the trainee finished his
allotted 300 hours in his On-the-Job Training, the trainee learned different
aspects such as how to socialize, manage people, and different kinds of office
works accordingly, and how to be an asset in the firm. These things have a
big contribution to become a better employee someday. All those things are
very helpful to the trainee in the future. The importance of On-the-Job training
can enhance one’s attitude and can prepare the trainee for work. Now, the
trainee has learned the differences of the things taught inside the class room
and in actual. During On-the-Job Training, of the trainee he enjoyed the
companion of the officers in the office. The advice of the officers will always
be on the trainee’s mind. Aside from the numerous photos, the moments will
stay on his heart forever. He also learned that communication is very
important when working especially when disseminating information. You need
to be focused to all situations and in work. They have the passion in working
and enjoy the time even if it is a tiring day. The trainee enjoyed the rest of his
training because of friendship and advices of the staffs had shared.
1

INTRODUCTION
One of the enhancing and enriching skills of the students is
undertaking the On-The-Job Training. Students who are taking up Bachelor of
Science in Agricultural Economics are given the chance to undergo the so
called On-The-Job Training to be able to apply the knowledge they acquired
from school to their chosen firms. It is the beginning of the greatest
educational experience as agricultural economics student would encounter. It
is one way of developing their sense of responsibility upon performing the
given task by their supervisors and the rest of the staff.
The student/trainee, Mr. Joshua G. Guevarra, a Bachelor of Science
in Agricultural Economics student of Pampanga State Agricultural University
(PSAU) took his On-the-Job Training in PSAU, Knowledge, Information and
Technology Sharing (KITS) Center at PAC, Magalang, Pampanga.
The trainee wanted to take his On-the-Job Training in the office of
PSAU, Knowledge, Information and Technology Sharing (KITS) Center to
expand his knowledge in working and how to communicate to other people.
From the help and support of his OJT Coordinator, he recommended the
trainee to his former officemate, one of the staffs in the PSAU, KITS Center
and fortunately he was assigned in the said office.
The trainee was required to report to any staff of the Office from
7:00am to 5:00pm from Monday to Friday for two months to accomplish the
required time needed which was 300 hours.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

On-the-job training describes the nature of work environment and

responsibilities where the student-trainees would greatly benefit through
encountering real-life scenarios and solving industry-based problems.
This study aimed to correlate the academic performance and the on-
the-job training performance of the students from AB Paralegal Studies in
terms of Personal Characteristics, Attitude towards the job, job performances,
adherence to company policy and competence.
Results showed that the students obtained excellent performance
rating in terms of personal characteristics, attitude towards the job, job
performance and competence.
There is a need to enhance the communication skills of the students
through giving them more verbal exercises as teaching and learning activity
as well as giving more case studies to analyze and simulate for better
understanding of the subject.
(Anunciation Bernardo 2014)
Base on the trainee’s experiences in taking his On-the-Job
Training in PSAU, Knowledge, Information and Technology Sharing
(KITS) Center at PAC, Magalang, Pampanga, with the help of Mr.
Christian Kim L. Layug who provided him the real work assignments.
To ensure his work’s success, the staffs of KITS Center helped him to
make it possible. It may be a challenging to the trainee, real work
assignments are valuable and useful at the end of the day.
According to Mrs. Jasmin S. Villanueva, KITS Center Coordinator.
On-The-Job training is one of the most important requirements to finish your
study in college, she helped the trainee to make it possible and Mrs. Jasmin
always give an advice and encouragement to the trainee to finish his OJT and
she also said that OJT is first step to enhance your skills in working and OJT
helped the student on how to communicate to other customer or other people.

staffs of the office to their works if they needed.
The On-the-Job Training is very important to a student to mold
them and to make them realize how a real work is. It may be tough for
them as student, the most important thing is to have knowledge and
gain learning from what they have been through.

SUMMARY
The trainee was oriented by Mr. Al R. Munoz, the OJT
Coordinator. He instructed the trainee on what is going to do in his
300 hours of duty. He also gave all the requirements needed in the On-
the-Job Training on applying in a firm.

The trainee started his training at PSAU, KITS Center at PAC,

Magalang, Pampanga was on June 06, 2019. The first thing that the
trainee had to do was to familiarize different facilities and people who
he might accompany with specially in submitting papers to different

his training. The trainee was the encoder, assistant of the staff in the
office. He learned how to bind the documents of the customer and on
how to communicate to other customer.

7:00am to 5pm from Monday to Friday for two months to accomplish
the required time needed which is 300 hours.

The trainee completed the required 300 hours of his On-the-Job

Training last July 26, 2019.

CONCLUSION

The On-the-Job Training had subsidized much knowledge and

new learning to the student in both professional and personal aspects
in his life. It is very important not only to teach students their chosen
career but to show students the reality about working. On-the-job is
indeed vital and necessary to students because the program expands
the students’ knowledge as it helps the students explore their skills in
the actual work area.
Therefore, the trainee concludes that being a work capable
person can be an asset to the company and the OJT can help the
student to become a more productive person. Through OJT, the
learners will learned different things that they can use in the future
when they are in the real world. On-the-Job Training will make the
student trainee to become salutary personnel of the company.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
As part of the training, every student-trainee will encounter a
problem that can be identified as denoting or relating to people whose
behavior causes difficulties to themselves and others.

Some of the problems that the trainee encountered are the

following:

1. Time Management

It is easy to the trainee to concur the On-The-Job training. Because

of the traffic the other staffs of the office is always late.

2. Dealing with other People

Sometimes there was a miscommunication with the customers.

3. Internet Connection

The internet connection in the office was weak.

4. Lack of Supplies

The supplies of the office are not enough to do their work better.

5. Lack of Air Condition

Because of the shortage of air condition the office is not enough to

supply the cold of every room.

But to these problems encountered by the trainee, he learns

how to handle it in some ways:
10

RECOMMENDATION
1. Time Management

Give time for what is important. What you conceive on your mind
you can achieved if you think you can do the things then you can.

2. Dealing with other People

Act like a professional, calm and continue to work.

3. Internet Connection

The office need a strong internet connection for the staff to

make their works easier and they don’t need to go in the other
offices of the firm to download files and make research and etc.

4. Lack of Supplies
The office must need more supplies for the needs of every staff.

5. Lack of Air Condition

They need to request air condition for the office to supply all the
rooms in office.

As the trainee enjoyed the rest of his training in his On-the-Job

Training, he would like to recommend to all the new trainees in the
PSAU, KITS Center to do their task well. Follow the instructions and
focus on the directions given by their boss and just enjoy what they
are doing. Learn how to suit their selves to those people in their
firm. Be a good trainee and so they will. Because working with good
people matters because then the work environment is good. If there
is a sense of respect and belief among the people you work with,
that is when good work is done.
