Swot analysis

Ballet:
Strengths:
 Ballet is not my strong point as I have not been doing it for long at all but one of my
strengths are my feet, I have been told I have very nice, pointed feet
 Another of my strengths would be my fluidity, ballet is on the most part very gentle and with
ballet exercises at a bar for it not to get boring it is good for the movements to flow
 I believe I have good use of my head and face when it comes to ballet, because I have little
training I always try and preform to the best of my ability.
Weaknesses:
 One of my main weaknesses is my posture, because I did gymnastics for many years when I
was younger, my back posture and alignment is slightly off, so when I stand at the bar my
teacher always tells me to push the top part of my back forward.
 I find picking up new steps very hard as I have no experience when it comes to learning
something new, sometimes I have never done the steps before, so I find it hard.
 Because of my lack in experience sometimes I can also get out of time, so staying in time is
an area that I need to improve on.
 Flexibility will always be something I can work on, as my leg could always be higher in my
grand battements for example.
 Centre practice in general is one of my weaknesses as I do my ballet practice at home online,
so when it comes to perform sequences in a big space, I find it confusing but it also means I
can’t practice grand jete for example.
Opportunities:
 As one of my areas is not being able to practice in a big space, I am very lucky that at the
college we have a very spacious studio, so I can use this to my advantage and practice my
centre work there.
 There is so much on the internet nowadays, I can use this to help expand my knowledge of
understanding the movement, such as if there is something we do in class that I am not sure
about, when I get home, I can search up a video and watch people do it.
 Take regular ballet lessons to push my technique.
 Stretch daily to improve my flexibility, there are hundreds of stretching videos online that I
can use to my advantage.
Threats:
 Injury will always be a threat as a dancer
 Being too busy, this will stop me from being able to [practice so I need to make sure I plan
out what is important and make time to practice ballet
 Losing motivation, I don’t enjoy ballet that much so its hard to keep focused and go to
lessons, but it is something that I must do in order to improve and get into a good dance
school.

Contemporary:
Strengths:
 I have trained in a few different styles of contemporary, so I am quite diverse.
 Because I have trained the most in contemporary, I can do quite a few tricks
 I am very confident with this style
 Another one of my strengthens would be choreographing in this style
 Improvisation
Weaknesses:
 Getting more experience so that I can become even more diverse as a contemporary dancer
 I find it hard to pick up new moves when I have not done them before, I found this out at my
recent NYDC audition where I found the travelling sequences hard
 Preforming to the best of my ability every time I preform
 Being confident in always using my facial expressions
Opportunity:
 Taking online classes in styles that are out of my comfort zone such as Afro or Capoeira to
push me as a performer
 Get into the habit of preforming everything full out, I could pretend that every time I
preform, and dance is an audition, so I get comfortable in always preforming.
 I could ask my dance teachers to try out some new travelling sequences so that I get more
experience in being out of my comfort zone.
Threats:
 Having no WIFI or space to take part than online class
 Having an off day at an audition and not preforming my best or being able to pick up the
choreography quick

Jazz:
Strengths:
 My turns are quite strong and after about a year of doing jazz I can even do triple turns
 Performance in jazz is strong as I really enjoy it and using my face comes naturally in this
style because of my musical theatre background
 My kicks are very strong and quite high
 I love this style, so I look forward to class and am always motivated
Weaknesses:
 I find it hard to do the travelling phrase as I have little experience in this style, so I need to
work on being more precise with sequences
 It is a challenge to choreograph in the style because I don’t have a lot of experience
 My leaps are high, but I need to make sure my legs are straight I tend to bend my back leg
Opportunity:
 Film my self and use mirrors to practice my leaps so that I can work on and correct my leaps
 Record myself preforming a set phrase that we are working on and use this to improve my
dynamic quality and make everything really strong
