Current Challenge facing by Muslim Ummah

Disunity of Muslim Ummah
Unity means “togetherness”, “live together and help each other in any crisis”.
Success of any nation is concealed in the mutual unity and harmony between its
members. A strongly united nation becomes an invincible force and overcomes
every hindrance which come in their way. No one dares to face such a unbeatable

and strong nation. The holy Quran educated us the lesson of unity at the time of its
revelation that is:
“You, by this (strength and unity) distressed the enemies of Allah
and yours.”
In many other verses of holy Quran, Muslims have been commanded to be united:
“and, keep hold on to the rope of Allah altogether and do not be
divided into sects”
In this verse, the whole Ummah is addressed instead of individuals and of
course it is the of every Muslims to do so. The holy Quran emphasize on the
harmony and unanimity by using the word “JAMI’EA” as well. Allah Almighty
has condemned the disunity and clash and declares a worst punishment/Azaab for
it.

Glorious Past of the Muslims:

After the end of the 23 years of prophet Muhammad (PBUH) life as a
Prophet, the righteous caliphs, in the light of the teachings of the Last Prophet
(PBUH) ruled in an exemplary fashion for almost 30 years and spread the religion
of Islam outside the Arab. This was the peak days of the Muslims. But after the
righteous caliphs, a Quraysh tribe named Banu Umayyad declared Damascus as
the capital and continued with victories until a point when the Islamic kingdom
reached China on the one hand and Spain on the other. Umayyad period was ended
in 750 AD and then Abbasids came to power. The Abbasid dynasty ruled for more
than 500 years. Extraordinary experts of science, mathematics and medicines were
born during this period. The rule of Abbasids lasted till 1257.
Basically, the disunity became appear in Muslims after the righteous
caliphs. In 1299 AD, the Turks established the Ottoman Empire. This Empire has
spread over three continents: middle east, north Africa and south-east Europe. This
Empire was dissolved after first world war in 1923 AD. The golden era for the
Muslims as well as non-Muslims was ended. Muslims remained united in one ruler
and help each other in crisis in this golden era.

Starting of dark age of Muslims:

After the dissolution Ottoman Empire, the unity of Muslims was broken in to
pieces. Many Muslims independent states were established but actually non-

Muslims created an empty space between all Muslims. Muslims began to think
about their own desires. Due to that, now a day there are near about 51 Muslims
countries but still Muslims are persecuted and brutally killed by western countries.
What are the reasons of such a miserable condition of Muslims all over the world?
There are certain reasons to elaborate our condition today.

Reasons of Disunity of today’s Muslims:

 Leaving Behind the Islamic Teachings:
Today, we forgot the golden Islamic principles of Islam. We left our Holy
Prophet’s Sunnah. Islam teaches us the lesson of justice, patience, speaking
truth, taking care of poor people as well as non-Muslims. But unfortunately,
we left near about all teachings of Islam. We have forgotten how brotherhood
is to be maintained. Allah said in Quran that:
“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do
not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you –
when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and
you became, by His favor, brothers.”
We have many examples of unity in the past when Muslims ruled
the world. Muslims remained the superpower of the world and modern
civilization until they rightly acted upon the teachings of Islam. But today
Islam became a fear. People fear from Muslims. Every Muslim country thinks
about itself not all Muslims. Due to this Muslims are disunited today.

 Sectarianism:
According to Wikipedia, sectarianism is a form of prejudice,
discrimination, or hatred arising from attaching relations of inferiority and
superiority to differences between subdivisions within a group. Common
examples are denominations of a religion, ethnic identity, class etc. today
Islam is divided into many sects which is the biggest cause of disunity of the
Muslim ummah. Generally, people from a sect hate the people of other sect.
sectarianism brought out the very worst in Muslim Ummah. Today Muslims
are being killed by the Muslims. Different groups calling the other unbeliever,
mosques being bombed. Violent extremism, petty mosque politics, racism
within the ummah in many Muslim countries.

What is happening between Saudi and Iran is due to

sectarianism. Both Muslims countries are planning to destroy each other. Both
countries are involved in sectarianism based fights in Syria and Iraq.
Sectarianism is the biggest and harmful cause of disunity of Muslim ummah.
Allama Iqbal stated in his book “jawab-e-shikwa” that:
“youn to sayyid bhi ho, Mirza bhi ho, afghan bhi ho
Tum sabhi kuch ho batao k Musalmaan bhi ho?”
The couplet of Iqbal demonstrates the clear divide and split in the Islamic
world on the basis of religion.

 Politics:
Today is the era of politics. Every country has relations with other
countries on the basis of politics. The relation of Islamic countries is also on
the basis of politics. Islam must be freed of the evil of politics. Since Islam
includes a system of government, it necessarily comprises of politics as well.
Those who claim that religion and politics must be separated are in fact
stripping religion of the strength it gains by providing a system of government.
But today’s politics is quite different from the politics which were
gain us by our Holy Prophet (PBUH). Today’s politics based upon wealth,
self-interest etc. every Muslim country is thinking about themselves. There is
no concern with other Muslim countries conditions. There is no concern what
is happening in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Palestine, Yamen etc. many Muslims
are being killed brutally by western countries on the name of terrorism but we
can do nothing except of speaking a little bit words of peace. This type of
politics has destroyed the path to the unity of Muslim ummah.

Consequences of disunity of Muslims:

 Loss of Allah’s Blessing:
Today Muslims are under persecution. They are being tortured in
Kashmir, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Palestine etc. Muslims are attacking on
other Muslims due sectarianism or terrorism etc. No one is helping the
miserable Muslims except of some words. This is all due to leave the path
of Allah Almighty. We left the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Allah said in Quran:

“And hold fast, all of you together, to the rope of Allah,

and be not divided among yourselves… [Al Baqarah: 103]”

 Loss of brotherhood in Islam:

Islam is a universal religion and the Holy Quran teaches us that our
creator, Allah, is one and that we, human beings, are a single species, a
single family, in spite of superficial differences like color, nationality, race
etc. the closest relation and bond that can take place between two people
during the course of their lifetime is that of brotherhood.
But unfortunately, Muslims split themselves into various groups. Muslims
have no more the relation of brotherhood. Allah says in Quran:
“without doubt the believers are brothers of one
another.”
But due to disunity Muslims remain no more brother of each other.

 Loss of strength and wealth:

In past when Muslims were united, they ruled the world. They had
every kind of strength like military, educational, man power etc. they did
not concern with wealth. They did every act according to the teachings of
Allah and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). They lived and ate together. They
had strength and wealth. Poor families were being cared by rich Muslim
people.
But today we have no strength and wealth. There are 51 muslim countries
and have a very big army but they are failed to solve the issues of
Palestine, Kashmir etc. this is due to disunity.

 Weak in educational field:

Muslims are very weak in educational field today due to disunity
because they are not sharing their research or material with each other.
Muslims did many inventions in past when Europe did not aware with such
kind of knowledge. Muslims invented the number zero (0), method of
surgery, method of making maps etc. but know we are depending upon
European method of knowledge. We left our method of knowledge. There
are some Muslim countries which have high quality of education and on
the other side there are some countries which have weak system of
education.

Suggestions for Achievement of Muslim unity:

 Commitment to Towheed avoid from sectarianism:

The shared beliefs of a nation can play an important role in people’s
alliance, solidarity between individuals of a nation. Particularly when it
based on the belief in God’s oneness and the whole ummah maintain it
in all walks of life. Quran invites believers to be united on Towheed.
Allah says in Quran:

“And verily, we have sent a messenger to every

community so (people in their direction) worship God and
keep them aloof from the contumacies (Taghoot).”
So the need of the hour is to maintain our lives according to the
teachings of Islam taught us by Allah’s messenger (PBUH).
And we also avoid from sectarianism. Our Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) taught us the lesson of unity. So we should not divide
ourselves on the basis of sectarianism.

 Identification of common enemy and issues:

All Muslims, scholars, intellectuals should be aware of any risk from
common enemy and should recognize such elements. Today ummah is
posed to serious threats in the terms of politics, moral or culture.
Common issues of Muslim Ummah are too high and there are very few
differences. We ignored our common beliefs and principles of Islam.
Quran and many other subjects are common to Muslims. Such common
things can lead us to the unity of the Ummah.

 Adherence to Islamic Brotherhood:

Islam declares all believers as brothers as Holy Prophet (PBUH) said:

“All believers are brothers of each other.”

Every Muslims should be aware of the situation of his brother and

should share his pain and sorrow. They need to have tendency to grow a
sense of sympathy and to promote the idea that we are one nation, will
help to unity of Ummah.

 Responsibilities of Muslim Governments:

1. Media watch:
Muslims governments should monitor their media so
that they do not on air or do not communicate anything that spread
hatred among different religious sects and religions. Uncontrolled
media is very harmful for Islamic union on various aspects.

2. Monitoring of pulpit and arcade/ member O Mehrab:

It is the responsibility of our government to monitor
the imams and khutba of the mosque because they are directly
connected to the society and their sayings are most effective for the
people.

3. D-control over Extremism:

4. Special focus on educational sector:

Conclusion:
Muslim’s disunity is a major and undeniable problem of the time. All
causes discussed upper have combined to confirm falling for Muslims, which
deprive them of their honor, dignity and power. On the other hand, the enemies of
the Muslims are united and they are engaged in making conspiracies to divide
Muslims. Thus the unity of Muslim Ummah is possible only under the flag of
Towheed. Allah also commands Muslims to observe Patience and retain unity
among them by following the principles of piety and brotherhood as well.
