2.What trait/s should you develop in order to use information from various
sources correctly and wisely?
DIG IN
Today’s society offers people with lots of tons of information
from various sources. As students, these sources of information
are not only helpful in your academics, but also in your daily
lives. Let us take a look at the different sources of information
and the ways on how to use them.
SOURCES OF INFORMATION
1) News Report
News reports are found in newspapers, televisions, or radios which aim to
inform the readers of what is happening in the world around them.
A news article is a factual, accurate, truthful and objective reporting of a
current event. Its main purpose is to inform the readers about timely and
important social issue or event.
There are various examples of news reports that you hear, read, and
watch in various media and platforms.

2) Panel Discussion
A panel discussion is a live or virtual discussion about a specific topic
among a select group of panelists/specialists who share differing perspectives
about a common topic in front of a large audience.
In a panel discussion, experts on the chosen topic share ideas, convey
thought or debate on a certain issue while the audience listen and learn from
the exchanges.
3) Speech
7
Don’t afraid to ask questions. If you come across something you don’t
understand, just jot it down and ask the speaker later for clarification.
Focus on the key words and concepts. In note-taking, you must learn to
identify and jot down the most relevant information. Focus on the new
information that you’ve never learned before.
Use the “question, answer, evidence method.” In this method, you will be
paraphrasing information which will help you understand and retain details
much more effectively.
Use shorthand. Developing your own system of shorthand writing can help
you write more efficiently and avoid falling behind. Of course, it’s essential
that you are able to decipher your shorthand later on.
Make your notes visually appealing. You should use a clean sheet of paper
for your note-taking. Your writing must also be legible.
Color-code your notes. Try using a different colored pen for different parts
of your notes. It makes your notes more interesting and easier to retain.
Review your notes. Review your notes after the lecture. Making a summary
will also help you remember important information.
FOLLOW UP
This time, let us try to recall key points from the
discussion. Fill in the blank with the correct term or
phrase to complete each of the following sentences.
