Useful Vocabulary

1. Lift-off (noun), to lift off (phrasal verb) – the action of a spacecraft or


rocket leaving the ground

We have lift-off.

2. Altitude – height above sea level

We are currently flying at an altitude of 15,000 metres.

3. Serene (syn. peaceful) – peaceful and calm; worried by


nothing

She has a lovely serene face.

4. To be awe-struck by smth – filled with feelings of


admiration or respect

I could tell she was impressed from the awe-struck expression on


her face.

5. Fragile (adjective), fragility (noun) – a fragile object is easily


damaged or broken

Be careful with that vase - it's very fragile.


6. To vouch for smth/smb – to support the truth of something
or the good character of someone, based on your knowledge
or experience

I’ve known him for years and can vouch for his honesty.
