Example: Design Day Cooling Load Calculations

The design day cooling load was calculated for a commercial building in St. Louis, Missouri. The total sensible cooling load was 130,343 Btu/hr from transmission through the walls, roof, doors and windows (55,317 Btu/hr), solar gains through windows (39,301 Btu/hr), lighting (21,082 Btu/hr), infiltration (6,840 Btu/hr), and people (7,803 Btu/hr). The total latent cooling load was 12,395 Btu/hr from infiltration (6,970 Btu/hr) and people (5,425 Btu/hr). The total cooling load was 142,738 Btu/hr or 11.

For the commercial building located in St. Louis, Missouri and described below. Determine
the sensible and latent cooling load at 4:00pm on July 21 for an inside design temperature
of 75 ºF and 55% RH.
