Running Head: Quadratic Equations 1

This document discusses quadratic equations and their importance. Quadratic equations are distinguished from linear equations in that quadratic functions are expressed as y = ax^2 + bx + c and involve squaring the x variable. The document also explains that quadratic equations are widely used in science, business, engineering, and other fields to model situations where two variables are multiplied together, such as determining optimal pricing.

Quadratic Equations

I think that we should study quadratic expressions since they enable the brain to practice

thinking rationally, which in turn lets an individual make better judgments throughout their life.

Having a healthy habit of thinking rationally may frequently mean the difference between

success and failure, or even life and death. Mathematics is a language of logic and studying it

helps the brain to think rationally and express logical ideas, just like learning English allows one

to think about and communicate other sorts of thoughts. Even though quadratic equations are a

fundamental method, they are nevertheless highly valuable to scientists and engineers even at the

forefront of their professions. Many physical processes in our environment occur with a

connection of being squared relative to other qualities that we see or influence. To forecast how

these processes will operate, and to build systems to take advantage of these processes to achieve

it is required that individuals describe the process using a quadratic equation and then solve it.

Lastly, exposure to these approaches can assist identify if one has an aptitude for arithmetic,

which is a very crucial ability for a big fraction of occupations that bring both societal benefit

and personal pleasure. These essentials are merely a little taste to lure an individual along a road

to a vast universe of mathematics.

Quadratic equations are distinguished from linear equations in that “linear functions are

graphed as straight lines since the x variable is not raised to any exponent, resembling a flat

bridge, but quadratic functions are generally expressed in the form y = ax2 + bx + c” (Nielsen,

2015). Quadratic functions will always have the second power of the x variable. Additionally,

while graphing a linear function is simple, graphing a quadratic function is a more involved,

multi-step procedure.

In science, business, and engineering, quadratic equations are often employed. Quadratic

equations are frequently employed in situations where two variables are multiplied together.

Because the amount of a product sold is frequently determined by its price, a person may

occasionally use a quadratic equation to find “maximum value” (Lumen, 2021). For instance, a

local newspaper currently has 84,000 subscribers at a quarterly charge of $30. Market research

has suggested that if the owners raise the price to $32, they would lose 5,000 subscribers.

Assuming that subscriptions are linearly related to the price, the company should charge

2,528,100 US dollars for a quarterly subscription to maximize their revenue.
