Lab Manual 5

This document provides information about experiment 5, which aims to familiarize students with the Einscan-SE 3D scanner. It describes the 3D scanning process, wherein multiple snapshots of an object are taken and fused into a 3D digital model. The specifications of the Einscan-SE are also listed, including its scan speed, accuracy, suitable object sizes, output file formats, and the devices used. In his notes, the student discusses how 3D scanning can be used to digitize clay models and customize 3D printed designs, and comments that 3D scanning analyzes real-world objects to construct accurate 3D digital models.

Experiment # 5 To familiarizes the students with the 3D Scanner Einscan-SE. Commented [SFR1]: Add Student notes and comments with
questions at the end of each experiment!
Commented [SFR2]: Question to be placed at the end of
A. AIM experiment:

1.What are the issues associated with 3D Scanner?

This study is aimed at providing a student with a brief understanding of 3D Scanner used for a rapid 2.

prototyping system.

B. Methodology

3D scanning is the process of analyzing a real-world object or environment to collect data on its
shape and possibly its appearance (e.g. colour). The collected data can then be used to construct
digital 3D models. The accuracy of a portable 3D scanner normally ranges between 0.01 mm and 0.1
mm
C. Description of Procedure

3D scanning is a technology for creating high-precision 3D models of real-world objects. It works

like this: a 3D scanner takes multiple snapshots of an object. The shots are then fused into
a 3D model, an exact three-dimensional copy of the object, which you can rotate and view from
different angles on your computer.

Student’s Notes
We can use this technology to make different products. Like, we use clay to make
different characters and the characters be like animals and cartoons. After making of clay
model the next step to digitalize it. We can use the 3D desktop scanner EinScan-SE to get
The 3D model data, which can be further edited in the 3D software including smoothing
the surface and adding more features that are hard to make by hands. The 3D model was
loaded into 3D design software for modification. . In this case, the talented student used
123D Design from Autodesk to transform the cartoon character into a pen holder by
adding a base and carving a hole from the top. Finally, the 3D model after designing was
sliced and 3D printed by the desktop 3D printer Einstart-C. The 3D printing process was

quite easy: just export the .stl model file from 3Dstar software to the printer by a USB drive

and press the start button. The printing speed of Einstart-C is faster than many other 3D

printers. It only took about 7 hours to print the 123mm high model
