Module 1 Activity
With the help of technology and the use of a social media platform such as Twitter,
Bana Alabed was able to reach out to the world and spread the word about the
bombings in East Aleppo.
2. In your perception, what globalization paradigm can best explain the power of social
media in waking and moving people from around the world to the harsh conditions in
Syria? Explicate your answer.
3. If the same technology brought by Globalization was available during the height of WW1
and WW2, what are your assertions as to the situations that could have happened or could
have transpired during that time? Give at least three (3) assertions.
It will increase the conflict, some parts of the conflict will involve some form of
digital warfare, such as hacking, and technology has the potential to bring the war to
an end.
4. From the three assertions you have provided in number three, choose at least one (1)
and classify it according to the intersecting dimensions of integration in globalization which
were termed by Anthropologist Arjun Appadurai as “scapes” (ethnoscape; mediascape;
technoscape; financescape; and ideoscape).
For technoscape, I would prefer the second statement because there would be a
circulation of various software and mechanical goods that were deployed in WW1
and WW2.
TASK 2
1. Country “X”, a third-world country, started to attract foreign investors by reducing high
tariff rates that discourage potential investors outside the country.
3. Country “XX” has been an economic tiger for decades. While many underdeveloped
countries continue to seek an alliance with said country, various left-wing groups within
such underdeveloped countries remain dissatisfied with their economy. This consequently
led the latter to instigate a massive attack against Country “XX” branding it as an abusive
state which must be checked.
Every country should be taught not to go to war and not to blame countries with
stronger economies than their own.
TASK 3
For example, if a country opens its border to another country which has a booming
economy, if there are no boundaries, a borderless economy will emerge, and
economy would decline.
Globalization may be defined as both universalization and westernization. It will
obliterate many countries' customs and traditions but the globe will become one
REFLECTION
“If we don’t end war, war will end us” – H.G. Wells
War is fought for economic reasons or because the country is empirical in nature. This
quote also applies to ourselves; if we don't stop war on our past selves, we won't be able to
move on and will become stuck.
One approach to stop a war is to expose the truth, but how can this be done when the
media is controlled by the powerful who are leading the war? People who had firsthand
experience with the war. They can stand for themselves and tell the world what it feels like
to be bombed
“I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary, the
evil it does is permanent”
War may be beneficial to some countries and help them boost their economies, but the
question is whether the economy or the individuals who were harmed throughout the
process is more important. Are they just collateral damage? Is it fair?
