Lesson Plan

In
COMPUTER SYSTEM

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:

1. Identify the important components of a computer system;

2. Differentiate between hardware, software, and people ware; and
3. Distinguish the functions of a computer system.

II. Subject Matter:

1. Documentation:
“Computer System”, ENTERPRENEURSHIP-BASED TECHNOLOGY
AND LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION ICT-COMPUTER HARDWARE
SERVICING, Learning Module, Page: 6-21.

2. Materials:
Visual Aids, Real Object Illustrations, and Drawing/Image.

III. Procedure:
1. Introductory Activities:
a) Review:
Ask questions from the students from previous lesson.

b) Motivation:
The class will classify the words inside the box whether a
HARWARE or a SOFTWARE. They will paste the word on
the bubbles provided in the chart.

Software

1. Monitor 1. Miscosoft Office

2. Keyboard 2. Adobe
3. CPU 3. Java
4. Mouse 4. Windows
5. Printer 5. “MAC” macintosh os/os2
c) Presentation:

Computers have become a useful part of our everyday lives. The types of computers
we use at home or at work are referred to by varied names such as PC’s, microcomputer,
workstations, laptops, and desktops. These computers are most popularly referred to as “personal
computers” or PC’s, the most common type of computer in the world.

Today, an average person uses computer-based assistance several times each day
and it becomes an integral part of our lives. So it is very important to be aware of and understand
them.

As an aspiring computer technician, it is very important to know the different

components of a computer system. These are the hardware, software, and people ware. Each
component plays an important role, without each other computer system will not work properly.

d) Lesson Proper:

1. Hardware - the physical, touchable, electronic and mechanical parts of a computer system.
2. Software - is the set of instructions (also called a program) that guides the hardware to operate
effectively, or the non-tangible part of a computer system.
3. People ware - refers to people involved in the data processing operations such as the system
administrator, office workers, students and others.

1.1 Major hardware components of a computer system.

1.1.1 System Unit - the main part of a microcomputer, sometimes called the chassis.
1.1.2 Motherboard - the main circuit board of a computer. It contains all the
circuits and components that run the computer.
1.1.3 CPU (Central Processing Unit) - the processor is the main “brain” or “heart”
of a computer system. It performs all the instructions and calculations that
are needed and manages the flow of information through a computer.
1.1.4 Primary Storage - is the computer’s working storage space that holds data,
instructions for processing and processed data (information) waiting to be
sent to secondary storage. Physically, primary storage is a collection of
RAM chips.
1.1.4.1 ROM - (Read Only Memory) is non-volatile, meaning it holds data
even when the power is ON or OFF.
1.1.4.2 RAM - (Random Access Memory) is volatile, meaning it holds data
only when the power in ON. When the power is OFF, RAM’s
contents are lost.

1.1.4.2.1 SDRAM
1.1.4.2.2 DDR SDRAM
1.1.4.2.3 DDR1, 2, 3, 4
1.1.4.2.4 EDO RAM
1.1.5 Expansion Bus - a bus is a data pathway between several hardware
components inside or outside a computer. It does not only connect the parts
of the CPU to each other, but also links the CPU with other important
hardware.
1.1.6 Adapters - printed-circuit boards (also called interface cards) that enable the
computer to use a peripheral device for which it does not have the
necessary connections or circuit boards. They are often used to permit
upgrading to a new different hardware.
1.1.7 Power Supply Unit (PSU) - installed in the back corner of the PC case, next to
the motherboard. It converts 120vac into DC voltages that are used by the
other components in the PC.
1.1.8 Hard Disk Drive (HDD) - also known as hard drive, or the permanent storage
for data, and usually configured as drive C:.
1.1.9. Optical Drive - is a storage device that uses lasers to read data on the optical
media.
1.1.10 Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) - Designed to optically access data stored on a
DVD.

e) Developmental Activities:
1. What is Computer?
2. What does it involve?
3. What are the components of a computer system?
4. What are the major hardware components of a
computer system?

f) Concluding Activities:
1. Reinforcement:
Follow up the lesson on the computer system with film viewing. Utilizing the
internet and the website Youtube, view a video regarding parts of the computer.
Use the URL:

1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9gYVKPczRA
2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bySnX9ZHYvo&feature=player_embeded
