Analysis of PECS in Relation to a Practitioner
Most people of an entrepreneur as someone with dreams of becoming a titan of industry. While many would
be entrepreneurs have lofty goals, most hope only to create a successful business, whether that success spans the
globe or reaches no further than their local community and entrepreneurial activity, is a good source of livelihood
among Filipinos. Through retailing, customers can avail of goods from cheap sources near their homes.
Retailing requires a lot of other activities. Hence, the future entrepreneur should adopt an
ideal scheme prior to venturing into this kind of business.
LESS
LESSON
ON PROPER
What is retailing?
Retailing, is the process of selling merchandise and certain services to consumers. It ordinarily
involves the selling of individual units or small lots to large numbers of customers by a business set up for
that specific purpose. In the broadest sense, retailing can be said to have begun the first time one item of
value was bartered for another.
Retailing is interesting because the operator has a chance to get acquainted with the people in the
community. It is challenging because it sharpens one’s mathematical ability and
develops judgment and creativity in the effort to please and satisfy customers.
1. Purchasing
It is the process a business or an organization uses to acquire goods or services to accomplish its
goals.
What is Markup?
It is the difference between the cost price and the selling price.
To understand better how to compute the selling price of a product, read this example.
Jason bought 5 pieces of plywood for 1000 pesos. How much is the cost of a plywood if he would sell it?
The cost of 5 plywood is P1000. If she wants to have a 10 % markup, multiply P1000 by
10%.
P1000.00 x .1 P100.00
Jason would expect a profit or markup of P100.00.
To get the selling price, add the cost of the materials plus 10% markup, then divide by the number of head band bought.
Jason will get the selling price of each plywood.
The selling price per plywood is P 220.00. He imposed only a 10% markup in order to sell the plywood because he
already has a profit.

Types and Value of Selling
The most important concern of every store owner is how to win the customer’s goodwill. In this lesson,
you will learn how to be a good retailer, and have the benefits from selling in return.
As an entrepreneurial activity, retailing is a good source of livelihood, but it requires wise purchasing,
accurate receiving and checking of goods, and reasonable pricing.
Identify the needs and capability of the people to buy products. The buying practices and preferences
of customers determine the sales techniques a retailer should adopt.
1. Mae bought a box of nails for P850.00. The box contains 12 kilos of nail. She added a 10% markup
for the goods. Now, compute the selling price for each kilo of nails.
2. Rona is an online seller. She bought 50 pcs. of Jack Plane for only 10 thousand pesos. How much
is the cost of every Jack Plane if she would sell it with a mark-up profit of 15%?
Activity 3
Direction: Identify the type of selling described in each statement.
1. Customer pays part of the merchandise in cash, and the rest of the amount, charged to
his account.
2. The customer pays cash for goods delivered.
3. Goods are charged to the customer and then delivered to his home.
4. The customer pays for the goods and takes the products home with him.
5. The customer and the owner agreed that a certain amount be paid on a specific date until the
