Distance Protection R1

The document provides guidelines for setting parameters for a line protection relay (ADR239B). It includes instructions for calculating inputs like line impedance, CT and PT ratios. It also outlines how to set the zones, reach, time delays and other settings for the relay to detect phase and ground faults along the transmission line. The settings are calculated based on line characteristics like length, impedance values and voltage/current transformer ratios to provide protective relaying for the 44.52 km long 132 kV transmission line.

1.2.6.4 Z4 Setting: (Setting for Reverse Zone)

Case 1 :
• If length is less than 100Km, then Reverse Zone = 20% of Line length.
• If line length is more than 100Km Reverse Zone = 10% of Line length.

Case 2 :
• Total Reverse Zone % = ____________100______________
Total positive sequence reactance

= ____________100______________
[|Z1| Sin (71.6692)] x Line Length

= ____________100______________
0.4350 x Sin(71.6692) x 44.5

= 5.44%

To set Final Z4 setting takes maximum in between Case 1 and Case 2

Our length is 44.5Km ; it is less than 100Km
Case 1 Value = 20% of Setting, and
Case 2 Value = 5.44 % Setting of line length
Final Z4 setting = Maximum (Case1, Case 2)
= Maximum (20%, 5.442%)
Zone 4 Reach = 20% of line length

OP Mode = Reverse
Fwd-RP4 = As per the guideline (Page 2, Section4) says “The resistive reach should be equal to
Zone-2 resistive reach”
Fwd-RP4 = (60/2) x (CTR/ PTR)
