Detailed Lesson Plan in Robotics 9 (Week 3)

1) The document is a detailed lesson plan on robotics for 9th grade students that focuses on basic electrical circuit concepts. 2) Students will learn to identify electrical symbols, draw diagrams of different circuits like series, parallel and mixed, and design real-life circuit diagrams and compute their electrical consumption. 3) The lesson will include examples of open and closed circuits, as well as series, parallel and mixed circuits. Students will then practice drawing various circuit diagrams and evaluating their understanding.

Content Standard: The learner should be able to show understanding in the basic concepts of electricity

Performance Standard: The learner should be able to create circuit diagrams using electrical symbols.

Learning Competency: Basic Concepts of Electricity

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
1. Identify the electrical symbols used in creating circuit diagrams
2. Draw the diagrams of the different electrical circuits.
3. Design circuit diagrams used in real life situations and compute their electrical consumption

Content: I. Basic Concepts of Electricity

A. Electrical Circuits
i. Open Circuit
ii. Closed Circuit
iii. Series Circuit
iv. Parallel Circuit
v. Mixed Circuits

Learning Resources:
a. References: Fitzgerald, Scott, et. al.,Arduino Projects Book, pages 21 – 30
b. Instructional Materials:
PowerPoint Presentation, Laptop Computer, writing materials

Procedure:
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson (Balik-aral sa nakaraang aralin at/o
pagsisimula ng bagong aralin)
Ask three (3) learners to present their assignment in power computation of their chosen appliance
at home.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (Paghahabi sa layunin ng aralin)

Today we will create diagrams of different electrical circuits and compute their electrical
consumption.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the lesson (Pag-uugnay ng mga halimbawa sa bagong aralin)

An electrical schematic diagram, or more simply circuit diagram, is a drawing that shows the
connections and components in an electrical circuit. It doesn't represent how they're arranged, just
how they're connected. There's nothing to show which wire goes through which wall, or how the wires
are positioned -- that would be a whole separate diagram. A circuit diagram is arranged to make it as
clear as possible how to connect everything.

Types of Circuit:

CLOSED CIRCUITS & OPEN CIRCUITS

A closed circuit has a complete path. An open

circuit does not. In order for a circuit to work, it
must be closed; thus, open circuits aren’t
functional. That may be a hard idea to grasp at
first, but circuits are very different from open
restaurants or open doors. When a circuit is open, the current cannot flow through.

SERIES CIRCUITS & PARALLEL CIRCUITS
A series circuit is a circuit in which the
same current flows through all
components of the circuit. The current
only has one path to take. If you’ve ever
had trouble with Christmas lights, you
might know a little about series circuits.
If the lights are constructed in a series
circuit (as many holiday lights are), when
one bulb is missing or burnt out, the
current cannot flow, and the lights won’t
turn on. Series circuits can be very
frustrating because if they don’t work, you have to figure out which piece is responsible for the whole.

A parallel circuit is a circuit in which the components are arranged so that the current must break up
(with bits flowing across each parallel branch) before meeting and combining again. Because the
current divides, each component is assured a charge. And if one path breaks, the other paths will still
work because they aren’t reliant on each other. (So if you’re looking for new Christmas lights, check
that they’re in a parallel circuit arrangement to avoid a lot of hassle.) Houses are always built with
parallel circuits so that if one light burns out, your entire house won’t lose power.

MIXED CIRCUITS
A combination circuit is one that has a "combination" of series and parallel paths for the electricity to
flow. Its properties are a combination of the two. In this example, the parallel section of the circuit is
like a sub-circuit and actually is part of an over-all series circuit.

D. Discussing new concepts (Pagtalakay ng bagong konsepto at paglalahad ng bagong kasanayan #1)

The following are the symbols used by common electrical circuits:

E. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson (Paglalahat sa aralin)
Answer the following questions:
1. What are the benefits of using circuit diagrams?
2. Make a draft of your home electrical wiring using circuit diagrams.

F. Evaluating learning (Pagtataya ng Aralin)

Draw the circuit diagrams that represents the following electrical connections:

8. Draw the circuit diagram of a load across a 50.0-V battery consists of a series combination of
two lamps with resistances of 125  and 225 .

8.

9. Draw the circuit diagram of a load across a 12-V battery consists of a series combination of
three resistances are 15 , 21 , and 24 , respectively.

9.

10. Draw the circuit diagram of 35-, 55-, and 85- resistors connected in parallel. The
resistors are then connected to a 35-V battery.

10.

G. Additional activities for application or remediation (Karagdagang Gawain para sa takdang-aralin/ o

remediation)

Assignment:

Design your own electrical wiring using circuit diagrams and present it in class next meeting.
