Lithium Fun Facts
Lithium Fun Facts
➤ Lithium is flammable.
7
Li is one of the primordial elements produced in the
Big Bang. A small amount of both isotropes 6Li and 7Li
are produced in stars, but it is burned as fast. 7Li can be
generated in carbon stars. Small amounts of 6Li and 7Li
can be generated from solar wind, cosmic rays hitting
heavier atoms, and from early solar system 7Be and
10
Be radioactive decay.
Universe
Lithium is used in pyrotechnics as a colorant and oxidizer. It’s used in red fireworks and flares.
Mind
Lithium salts are used for diagnoses such as schizoaffective disorder and cyclic major depression. Lithium salts have proven to be useful as
a mood stabilizer and antidepressant in mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder.
Body
Lithium metal is corrosive. Skin contact must be avoided. Breathing in lithium dust can
irritate the nose. It’s stored in non-reactive compounds such as naphtha. It can also cure
cluster headaches.
