Introduction
Objective type test occupy a unique place as there is no ambiguity or a bias in their scoring. Any person ,
even a machine (computer) can score an objective type test . Objective type test items can also be used
effectively in class room provided the teacher is well versed in their construction because constructive a good
objective types test item is as difficult as it is easy to score.
Definition

objective test items are that can be objectively scored items on which on which person select a response from
the list of options .
Advantages
1. easy to score .
2. objectivity in scoring
3. more extensive and representative sampling can be done
4. economy of time for both examiner and examinee .
5. it eliminates extraneous factors for example speed of hand writing , spelling , grammar and
neatness
6. it measures higher mental processes of understanding and application .
Disadvantages .
1. takes a lot of times and efforts in preparing the test .
2. guessing is possible.
3. printing cost is high.
4. construction of item is difficult.

Matching Item
Matching exercise consist of two parallel columns, with each word, number of symbol in one column being

Advantage
1. Many questions can be asked in a limited period of time , because they require relatively little
reading time.
2. Matching test can be constructed relatively easily and quickly.
3. Comparatively the scoring is also easier.
Disadvantage
1. If sufficient care is not taken in their preparation , they may encourage serial memorization
rather than association.
2. It is sometimes difficult to get clusters of questions that are sufficiently a like so that a
common set of responses can be used.
3. Generally they provide clues , i.e. items are likely to include irrevelent clues to the correct
answer.

Conclusion
objective items are highly structured and requires the student to supply a word or two or select the correct
answer from a number of alternatives.
