World Wide Web

The World Wide Web was invented in 1991 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee. It consists of electronic documents called web pages that can be static or dynamic. A website is a collection of related web pages stored on a web server with a home page serving as the gateway. Web servers store HTML files, web browsers allow users to access these files, and URLs provide the global address to locate documents and resources on the web.

THE WORLD WIDE WEB

(WWW)
-commonly known as Web,
invented in 1991 by Sir Tim
Berners-Lee, a British computer
scientist.
-It consists of a worldwide
collection of electronic
documents.

Each electronic document is


called a Web page. Pages maybe
static or dynamic:
● A static web page contains the same information for all users. Although it may
be periodically updated from time to time, it does not change with each user
interval.
● A dynamic web page provides custom content for the user based on the results
of a search or some other request. Also known as "dynamic HTML" or "dynamic
content", the "dynamic" term is used when referring to interactive Web pages
created for each user in contrast to the billions of static Web pages that do not
change.

WEB SITE
A website is a collection of related Web pages
and associated items, stored on a Web server.
Each Web site contains a home page, which is
the first document users see when they enter the
site. It usually serves as the gateway to all other
Web pages in a website.
The site might also contain additional
documents and files. Each site is owned and
managed by an individual, company or
organization.

TYPES OF WEB SITES


There is a variety of types of websites unlike before when websites were mostly
informational. Today, since the advent of the World Wide Web, there are more kinds of
websites that we can think of, some of which are the following:

☆ E-Commerce Websites - are online stores making it convenient to shop from the
comfort of your own home.
☆ Blogs - (shortened from web log), it operates in reverse-chronological order and
can either support a second website or stand alone in its right. It is very popular
as it allows a direct and personal interaction with your readers who can provide
comments directly on the website.
☆ Personal Websites - are generated by individuals for friends and family to share
information and pictures with each other.
☆ Photo Sharing Websites - These websites have one sole purpose- which is to
allow for the uploading and sharing of photographs online.
☆ Informational Websites - identified as sites which strive to provide information on
a particular subject or subjects to the reader.
☆ Brochure/Catalogue Style Websites - AN online brochure based website is more
than just for informational purposes as it goes further in depth to provide
information about products which are available to purchase.
☆ Social Media and Networking Websites - a combination of networking sites such
as Facebook and MySpace, although they can also integrate online forums
(whether for business or personal use).
☆ Government Web Sites - (national or local) may provide laws, statistics,
directories, timely information on issues concerning all citizens, or information
about government agencies.
☆ Advocacy Web Sites - a non-profit site is one sponsored by an organization or
association attempting to influence public opinion.
☆ News Web Sites - The primary purpose of a news site is to provide current
information about newsworthy topics.
☆ Educational Websites - provide scholarly works from academic departments,
course syllabus, class schedules, home pages of colleges and schools, online
courses, library catalogs, links to information databases, and the like.
☆ Portals - The goal behind a portal is provide relevant information to users without
requiring the user to spend a lot of time searching.
☆ Entertainment Website - it offers an interacting and engaging environment. They
offer music, videos, sports, games, sweepstakes, chats, and more.

WEB SERVERS
It refers to the computers that store the hypertext mark-up language (HTML) files
used on the Internet.
It is a computer on the World Wide Web that hosts HTML-tagged documents,
graphics, and multimedia files that may be accessed or downloaded by client browsers.

WEB BROWSERS
Web browser is a computer software that enables you to browse and navigate
World Wide Web documents or Web pages. It connects your computer to other
computers that are hooked up to the Internet.

COMPUTER ETHICS
Ethics deals with placing a "value" on acts according to whether they are "good"
or "bad".

○ Computer crimes and computer fraud - is an act performed by a knowledgeable


computer user, sometimes referred to as a hackers that illegally browses or
steals the company's or individual's private information.

TEN COMMANDMENTS OF COMPUTER USE


1. Thou shalt not use a computer to harm other people
2. Thou shalt not interfere with other people's computer work
3. Thou shalt not snoop around in other people's files
4. Thou shalt not use a computer to steal
5. Thou shalt not use a computer to bear false witness
6. Thou shalt not use or copy software for which you have not paid
7. Thou shalt not use other people's computer resources without authorization
8. Thou shalt not appropriate other people's intellectual output
9. Thou shalt think about the social consequences of the program you write
10. Thou shalt use a computer in ways that show consideration and respect

UNIFORM RESOURCE LOCATOR (URL)


- refers to the global address of documents and other resources on the World
Wide Web.

The components of a URL include the Web protocol, the Web server name, the folder in
which the page is stored, and the filename of the page.
