COLLEGE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE

I: INTRODUCTION

To begin with, “Physical Security refers to a logical set of tangible elements and
measures adopted to prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, materials,
documents and personnel”. Furthermore, “Perimeter Barrier is the defense-in-depth principle
ensures that concentric layers of barriers protect the assets of an organization, and that only
authorized people have access to the assets”. A ‘physical security’ is a broad topic which
determines the principles and different objects that matters on it. Perimeter Barrier is one of the
scope of physical security due to the fact that it is one the most significant in terms of
protection. All installations put perimeter barrier or fences to assure the protection of the things,
people inside of it as well as the installation itself- more likely to schools, perimeter barrier is
present here.

II: OBSERVATION

 PERIMETER BARRIER
 GATES, WINDOWS, DOORS, GRILLS
 Gate is known as a “point of entry to a space which is enclosed by walls.
Gates may prevent and control the entry or exit of individuals”. Windows,
grills and doors help the installations more secured. As I observed, although
this building is complete in terms of barriers still, its structure and condition
has a problem, perhaps due to its chronic already. There are some damages
to these barriers, however, it is still working and functioning.
 PERIMETER LIGHTING
 FLOURESCENT LAMP
 There’s a lot of fluorescent lamp in every room, corridor and even in the gates
and other places in the department. However, not all of them are functioning.
 ALARMS AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
 FIRE ALARMS AND WOCKY TOCKY
 Fire alarm is very important in any installation. There is a fire alarm in this
department therefore, it isn’t a problem. Wocky tocky is present also and
used by guards.
 PERSONNEL IDENTIFICATION AND MOVEMENT CONTROL
 STICKERS AND ID’S( IDENTIDICATION CARDS)
 Stickers and Id’s is required for students, professors and visitors for them to
be able to enter in the department. I think this level of security is a little bit
insufficient for reason that security guards can be deceive- deceive in a way
that some students may wear different id’s( fake id’s). But in terms of
movement control I don’t see any problem about this.
 UTILITIES
 FIRE EXTINGUISHER
 Fire extinguisher is present in every room in the department. It is very
important in case of fire incident.
III. RECOMMENDATION

 PERIMETER BARRIER
 GATES, WINDOWS, DOORS, GRILLS
 Though, it’s not that totally insufficient, still, it needs to repair or it could be
renovate to assure its reliability and proficiency. Furthermore, they should put
another barrier fence like barbed wire to make this building more secure and
maintain its orderliness.
 PERIMETER LIGHTING
 FLOURESCENT LAMP
 Personally speaking, the department must always monitor and inspect if all
this lamp are still functioning and if not, they should immediately change it to
avoid undesirable outcome and to keep its regularity.
 PERSONNEL IDENTIFICATION AND MOVEMENT CONTROL
 STICKERS AND ID’S( IDENTIDICATION CARDS)
 I simply recommend , inform the security guards to be more attentive,
enthusiastic and mindful.
