TIMBUL D.1 Scenario 1 - Amarissa A. Tsabita - 20536 - Group 3

The document discusses personal protective equipment (PPE) standards for handling COVID-19 in Indonesia. It outlines three levels of PPE based on risk level: level 1 for low risk activities, level 2 for patient care rooms, and level 3 for aerosol-generating procedures. Level 3 PPE, which is required for aerosol-generating procedures, includes an N95 mask, coverall/gown, boots, eye protection, face shield, gloves, headcap and apron. The document provides details on the level 3 PPE requirements for different medical groups and procedures.

TIMBUL Block D.1Scenario 1

• Explain national standard of PPE for Aerosol Generating Procedure

Determination of the type of PPE used is based on the health service location, the profession,
and the activities of medical personnel.

Specifically for handling COVID-19, PPE consists of masks, gloves, cover all, gowns, eye
protection, face shields, head protection, foot protection, and waterproof boots.

The use of PPE is tiered, including:

1. The first level is for health workers who work in general practice places where their activities
do not pose a high risk and do not generate aerosols. The PPE used consisted of surgical masks,
gowns, and examination gloves.

2. The second level is where health workers, doctors, nurses, and laboratory workers who work
in the patient care room, where non-respiratory samples are also taken in the room or in the
laboratory, the PPE needed is head coverings, google, surgical masks, gowns, and disposable
gloves.

3. The third level is for health workers who work in direct contact with patients who are
suspected of or have confirmed COVID-19 and perform surgical procedures that generate
aerosols, the PPE used must be more complete, namely head coverings, face shields, eye
protection or google, N95 masks , cover all, surgical gloves and waterproof boots.

As for the handling of Covid-19 for health workers who perform surgery, nebulization, or
dentists who may trigger the release of aerosols, it is emphasized that they must wear an N95
mask.

Based on the third revision of “Standar Alat Pelidung Diri (APD) untuk Penanganan COVID-
19 di Indonesia” compiled by Gugus Tugas Percepatan Penanganan COVID-19, aerosol
generating procedure must use level 3 PPE.

Below is more details on level 3 PPE based on the level of protection, group, scope/location,
and type of PPE.
