Engineering Officer - These are the officer who are qualified in Marine Engineering. They join

Ratings - There are three kinds of ratings -Deck, Engine Room and Catering. Deck rating is
responsible for cargo handling, mooring/unmooring and general maintenance of the ship.
Similarly the engine room rating assist the engineering officers in maintenances and operation of
engines and associated equipment. The catering crew consists fo Steward/Cooks and as the name

1978, as amended 1995. Every seafarer must carry this document while on board, which is also
an official and legal record of his sea experience.

Ans. Pre sea training is essential for obtaining CDC. According to the D.G. Shipping rules, the
eligibility conditions for applicant seaman other than Certificated Officers -
1. An applicant for issue of CDC as Deck, Engine and Catering (Saloon) Trainee shall have
successfully completed the pre-sea training for ratings from an approved training institute
as prescribed under sub-clause (b) of clause (ii) of sub-rule (2) of rule 28 of the Merchant
Shipping (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarer's) Rules,
1998.
2. An applicant for issue of CDC shall have undergone the basic familiarization training and
instructions as prescribed under sub-rule (1) of rule 33 of the Merchant Shipping
(Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarer's) Rules, 1998.
3. In case of issue of CDC on compassionate grounds, the Director General of shipping may
relax any or all of the provisions of this rule except sub-rules (5) and (6) of this rule in
respect of all categories.

Ans. Here at Cruiseline we follow a very clear policy of transparency:
1. Admission can be cancelled if the student is declared Medically Unfit by our panel
Doctor (approved by D.G. Shipping, India.) and Medical fee is refunded to him.
2. Candidate fails to pass the Qualifying Examination required of him to join the course.

On successful completion of this training programme the trainees can join as a NAUTICAL
TRAINEE CADET on board a ship (Indian / Foreign Shipping Companies). With further sea
service and post sea training program, the nautical cadets can appear for the second mate
examination. After passing they will be joining as navigational watch keeping officer as second
mate onboard a ship. With further sea service, they will be promoted to CHIEF OFFICER &
then MASTER (Captain) of the ship.
