4. Overview
The EGPWS provides an RS-232 test connection that can be used to access internal data from the EGPWS. In addition to internal
data, other items such as unit configuration and flight history can also be viewed using a personal computer (PC).
A PC terminal emulator program called WinVIEWS is used to access information in the EGPWS. WinVIEWS runs on any PC with
Windows 3.1 or higher and communicates with the EGPWS by a serial cable connection. WinVIEWS automatically configures the
communications port of the PC.
WinVIEWS has two basic modes of operation, Terminal Mode and Data Display Mode. Terminal Mode is used to send EGPWS
commands and receive data responses. Signals (data) can be seen in real-time using the Data Display Mode. Data Display Mode
can be used to assist in the system checkout when using an appropriate command file.
5. Loading WinVIEWS
WinVIEWS Version 2.0, PN 998-2846-500, is available on diskette free of charge from Honeywell Order Administration in Redmond,
Washington (phone 425-885-8917, fax 425-885-8988). WinVIEWS may also be downloaded from our Internet site, www.egpws.com.
The WinVIEWS files (~ 727 K bytes) are included in the install diskette. These files may be zipped together into one self-extracting
zip file. The files contained are:
System files
_inst16.ex_, _isdel.exe, _setup.dll, _setup.lib, data.z, setup.exe, setup.ins, setup.lst, setup.pkg, uninst16.exe
Helper files
Gen_GTP.cmd – a generic command file of ground test CVT Items
Gen_FTP.cmd – a generic command file of flight test CVT Items
Readme.txt – information file
WinVUser.doc – This document
Using a PC running Windows 3.1 or later, create a WinVIEWS directory, and copy all the files to the PC. Unzip the files if
necessary. Run the SETUP.EXE file to install WinVIEWS on the PC. Follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Starting WinVIEWS
Verify that the serial port of the PC is connected to the RS-232 port of the EGPWS via a serial cable. Verify the EGPWS power is
ON.
Note For interface directly to the EGPWS front panel RS-232 port, see Section 4, Reference Document 704-2617.
Start WinVIEWS on the PC by clicking on the WinVIEWS icon. The program will automatically choose an open serial port.
Typically, this will be COM1 or COM2. Ensure the box labeled “Automatically send command file after connect” is NOT selected.
Press “Connect” to continue.
Wait a few seconds while the EGPWS scrolls through the startup screen. If the “>” prompt doesn’t appear, press CTRL and Z
simultaneously to establish communications between the PC and the EGPWS.
Note If the EGPWS power is cycled while WinVIEWS is running, communication between the EGPWS and PC will be lost.
Once the EGPWS has regained power, press CTRL and Z simultaneously to re-establish communications between the PC
and the EGPWS.
When started by this method, WinVIEWS enters the Terminal Mode where the user can send EGPWS commands and view signal
responses. Use the drop-down command menus or type a command (followed by the Enter key) to send the command. The
EGPWS will respond to the PC. Enter “help” or “?” for a complete list of commands.
Note If the PC has infrared (IR) port capability enabled on the COM port, this will need to disabled prior to using WinVIEWS
on the PC.
Note At the initial Connect screen, if the box labeled “Automatically send command file after connect” is selected, WinVIEWS
will attempt to load the command file shown at the bottom of the dialog box. The target command file can be changed by
pressing the Change button, and browsing to find the command file. If the box labeled “Enter Data Display Mode after
loading Command File” is selected, WinVIEWS will attempt to enter Data Display Mode after loading the command file. It
is a good practice to leave the box labeled “Delete current EGPWS signal list before loading Command File” always
selected.
7. Terminal Mode
Terminal Mode is the primary mode of using WinVIEWS to query the EGPWS signals. While in Terminal Mode, the user receives
a command prompt “>” from the EGPWS whenever it is ready to receive a command. The user can enter a command by selecting it
from the drop-down “Commands” menu or by typing it in after the prompt. This command will be sent to the EGPWS. The EGPWS
will respond to the PC with the requested information.
This information can be viewed on the PC or recorded as a text file for later review.
While in Terminal Mode, it is also possible to send the EGPWS a list of signals from a command file or a list of commands from a
script file. Command files contain a list of signal names that are sent to the EGPWS so that the values can be viewed. Similarly,
script files contain a list of commands to be sent to the EGPWS for processing.

7.2 Commands
See the drop-down “Commands” menu (Section 7.5.1.4) for frequently used commands. Below is an alphabetical list of the
commands most often used. Press CTRL-R to repeat the previous command. To see a list of all commands, type HELP or ?, then
press Enter.
CXR <CVT Item> - output CVT Item's value
Example “CXR RawPitch1” will list current value of #1 Pitch source (in degrees)
Note: For a list of common CVT Items, see Honeywell document 060-4199-111, Current Value Table (CVT) Item Reference List for
EGPWS
CXL <CVT Item or partial name> - list matching CVT Items
Example “CXL GPS” will return all CVT Items with string GPS in their name
COV <CVT Item> <value> - overwrite CVT Item's value
Example “COV TerClr 750” will set computed terrain clearance to 750 feet
Note: When using the COV command, the red COMPUTER FAIL LED on the EGPWS front panel will illuminate to indicate a
software value has been overwritten.
COD <CVT Item or ALL> - clear overwrite of specific or all CVT Items
Example “COD TerClr” will return computed terrain clearance to normal processing
Note: When the COD ALL command is issued, the status LEDs on the EGPWS front panel will return to normal processing.
FHE - Flight history erase (will verify and reboot)
FHF - Output flight fault history
FHG - Output ground history
FHI - Output INOP history
FHS - Output status history
FHW - Output Warning history
ST <1-6,L, or C> - Perform SelfTest 1-6 (L=Long Level 1; C=Cancel)
VOI <word> - Voice a word (if word unknown it will be spelled)
The delay statement is not an EGPWS command and is not sent to the EGPWS. Instead, the “delay 4000” command causes
WinVIEWS to wait 4000 ms (4 seconds) before sending the next command.

7.4 Command Files
Ground testing of EGPWS typically uses WinVIEWS in Data Display Mode to view and verify all EGPWS inputs. The EGPWS
inputs are defined by Current Value Table (CVT) Items. While in Terminal Mode, it is possible to send the required list of CVT
Items to the EGPWS for real-time display. This is called loading a Command file and must be done prior to using the real-time Data
Display Mode.
Command files are text files with the *.CMD extension which contain a list of CVT Items to be sent to the EGPWS. Command files
can be created using a text editor. Sample command files are typically found in an appendix to the applicable ground test
procedure. Sample command files for ground and flight testing are found on the WinVIEWS diskette.
A brief sample Command File is shown below:
RawRA1 VCF
RawBAlt1
AGS1Val F
SystemRNP C
The first string is the CVT Item (example RawRA1 is the raw radio altitude from the #1 source). After a space, the second string
contains a combination of the letters V, C, and/or F, signifying if the user wishes to examine the Value, Custom and/or Flag field of
the preceding CVT Item. Specifying no letters defaults to examining the Value field.
See section 7.5.1.1 below for further instruction loading Command Files. See section 8 (Data Display Mode) for further instruction
viewing signals loaded from Command Files.

menu item. WinVIEWS displays the log using the Windows Notepad accessory. If your PC does not have Windows Notepad
installed, this command will not work properly.
7.5.2.1 Copy
In Terminal Mode, Edit/Copy (or CTRL-C) copies the highlighted lines of text to the Windows clipboard. This menu item will not
be enabled until text is selected.
7.5.2.2 Paste
In Terminal Mode, Edit/Paste (or CTRL-V) pastes the text from the Windows clipboard onto the end of the terminal window text.
This menu item will not be enabled unless there is text in the Windows clipboard.

7.5.3 View Menu
7.5.3.1 Toolbar
In Terminal Mode, View/Toolbar toggles whether the toolbar at the top of the terminal window is visible or not. When the toolbar
is visible, there is a checkmark next to the word “Toolbar.” The toolbar should be turned off in this version because it is mostly
unused. Future product versions may contain a toolbar with more functions.
CAGE CODE: 97896 SCALE: NONE SIZE: A DWG NO. 998-2846-600 REV: SHEET 10
Note Once a self test is started, the same selection source, either the cockpit switch or the RS-232 port, must be used to
conclude self test.
7.5.5.1 Settings
The Settings dialog box contains two items:
Suppress “Continue (Y/N) ?” messages? - Checking this box sets WinVIEWS to suppress these messages and the page pause
that the EGPWS generates at the end of a page of text. These (Y/N) messages are seen during replies to commands sent in
Terminal Mode.
EGPWS Data Sampling Interval - Entering a value in milliseconds sets the EGPWS data sampling rate. This value must be a
multiple of 100 milliseconds. The data sampling rate determines how often the EGPWS updates CVT Items when in Data Display
Mode. This sample rate also affects data recording. Fast sample rates (100 ms) can be used to capture fast transient conditions,
and result in better data resolution. Start with a setting of 500 ms for Pentium PCs and with 1,000 ms for 486 PCs.
7.5.6.1 Contents
This item opens the WinVIEWS help file to the table of contents.
CAGE CODE: 97896 SCALE: NONE SIZE: A DWG NO. 998-2846-600 REV: SHEET 11
8. Data Display Mode
Data Display Mode is a real-time display of selected signals (data) in the EGPWS. The user interface in this mode is limited to
function keys (i.e. F6, F10) rather than the drop-down menus and dialog boxes used in the Terminal Mode. The available
function keys are listed on the screen during Data Display Mode.
As new values are received from the EGPWS during Data Display Mode, an airplane symbol in the lower right corner of the screen
does an eight-point roll. The aircraft symbol serves as a confidence indicator for RS-232 communication to the EGPWS. While in
Data Display Mode, it is possible to record the changing signal values in a file with a * .HST extension. These recordings use a
unique compression format and can be post-processed using special Honeywell tools. These special tools will convert the HST
file into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, with each CVT Item displayed in a column. HST files can be simply viewed with Microsoft
Wordpad. By this method, only CVT Items that change from the previous time interval are written to the file.
