INTRODUCTION:

Hello, my name is Alea Puti. Today I will show you how to demonstrate the donning and
doffing of sterile gloves. The sterile gloves provide the barrier between the nurse’s hands
and the objects she contacts. The nurse is able to freely touch objects in a sterile field
without the fear of contamination. When wearing sterile gloves the nurse should always
remain conscious of which objects are sterile and which are not.

What you will need is a pair of sterile gloves in a package like this one. So a sterile glove
comes in different or various size. So you need to have the correct size of your hand in
order to for the glove to fit in.

PROCEDURE:

DONNING

 Open the package you and have done your medical handwashing.
 Next you need to carefully open the package. Notice that there are two coverings
inside. So we have the outer package and the inner package.
 Grasp the inner package and lay in on a clean flat surface jus about the waist
level .
 Open the package keeping the gloves on the wrapper. Avoid touching the gloves
because that is sterile
 Next identify your right and left gloves. So each gloves this one has a cuff
approximately five centimeters or two inches wide. Glove your dominant hand
first. So my dominant hand is my right hand. So I will glove it first.
 With thumb and your first 2 fingers of your non dominant hand. Touch only the
gloves inner surface
 Carefully pull glove over your dominant hand leaving a cuff and being sure that
cuff does not roll up to you wrist. Be sure that thumb and fingers are in proper
spaces. So what I do is I fold my thumb inside my four fingers so that it will not
touch the unsterile area and carefully pull it
 Then in the non dominant glove, slip your four fingers underneath the second
gloves cuff with the thumb abducted. Do not allow fingers and thumb of glove
dominant hand to touch any part of your exposed dominant hand.
 Now you can arrange your sterile gloves. So again avoid touching the non sterile
part. We are done with the donning of your sterile gloves

DOFFING
 How are we going to remove your sterile gloves, considering that If ever you
have already used up your sterile gloves or it is already soiled how are you
going to remove it.
 Using your dominant gloved hand grasp the other glove and remove by inserting
it keeping the contaminated are on the inside. Continue to hold onto your gloves
 You grasp the cuff and then the inside surface. So the contaminated part is
already enclosed inside and slide fingers of your unblocked hand inside the
remaining glove .
 Grasp only on inside and remove by turning inside out overhand and the other
gloves
 So your non dominant hand, you will slide it inside consider the inside surface as
the clean part so you will enclose the soiled area inside.
 Discard gloves inside the wrapper in appropriate container and wash your hands

So that’s how you done your sterile gloves and that’s how you also remove your sterile
gloves. Thank you and have a good day.
URINALYSIS AND FECALYSIS

For urine collection patient will receive a container. A container contains the information
of the patient’s full name, date and the time of the of urine collection

 Wash hands with soap and water


 Remove the container from the kit. do not touch inside of jar
 Begin urination into toilet. As urination continues, bring container into stream
 Do not touch inside of cap
 Wash your hand
 Return the container that has your collected urine into the assigned nurse.

For stool collection, patient will receive a container. A screw top container contains the
information of the patient’s full name, date and the time of the of stool collection.

 Remove the cup of the container.


 Place a empty plastic food container or a potty in the toilet to catch the stool wrap
over the rim of the toilet
 Make sure the stool doesn’t touch the inside of the toilet
 Use the spoon that comes with the container to collect the stool, then screw the
lid shut
 Put anything you used to collect the stool in a plastic bag and tie it up and put it
in the bin
 Wash your hand with soap and water
 Return the container that has your collected stool into the assigned nurse.
