Statement of Purpose in Support of the Study Permit Application

Introduction:

Understanding and discovering how civil products work, has always been an interest of
mine since my childhood. I have always been curious about construction of different
structures. When I was younger, I would spend hours building complex structures using
toy blocks, which is where my passion for engineering began. At school, this passion for
construction and engineering was further enhanced by mathematics and physics. My
enthusiasm for these subjects and their exciting theories is what led me to pursue a
degree in engineering. Today's advances in technology means the products engineers will
be able to achieve soon will be incredible. So, I am very passionate to have my career in
engineering field and am honoured to be accepted by Canadore College, North Bay,
Ontario to study Graduate Certificate Degree in Construction Project Management.

Family Background:

I have been living in nuclear family: my father (Manager), my mother (Teacher), and myself.

Language Ability:

I have successfully passed the test of English language proficiency (IELTS) with an overall
score of 6.5 bands (Listening: 6.0, Reading: 6.5, Writing: 6.5 and Speaking 6.5).

Relevance of this course with my education:

I always have satisfied with my decision to choose civil engineering as my career path. Since,
my childhood I always love buildings. Even I remember that in my 5th grade I made paper
building and my teachers loved that. I was very curious about the buildings and the
structures that were around me right from my childhood, fond of visiting the construction
sites and observing that how can be this possible.

Right from my primary school days I have exhibited wholehearted interest in Mathematics
and Science and have made undying efforts to sharpen my analytical quantitative skills.
After I passed my higher secondary examination. I succeeded in securing admission to the
BE in Civil Engineering at the popular silver oak College of Engineering and Technology,
affiliated to Gujarat Technology University. While the core courses afforded me with a
sound foundation in Civil Engineering, I found courses in Construction Management,
Surveying, Building Construction as well as Structural Analysis, and Professional Practices &
Valuation very interesting. I have secured distinction score 7.24/10 CGPA. Furthermore,
discussing about my experiences which led me towards Construction Management and
Business Management are that I did internship during my under-graduation in SAHAJANAND
Private Limited, which is a private contractor company, at that time I learned about all the
basic information about construction, how it works how to read drawings and everything.
And I realized that management plays a major role in this field. I firmly understood its
importance in each aspect of this.

I have also frequently visited many sites like METRO TRAIN PROJECT and BRIDGE PROJECT. I
always endeavored to attain a blend of civil and computer knowledge, as the present
scenario demands for the same. I, therefore, underwent career enhancing certification
courses in CADD Education where I learned about Autodesk Auto-Cad together-with
Autodesk Revit. After completion of my BE in civil engineering I did a job in private
contractor for 8 months. In this job I have learnt how to talk with labor, developers, and
other contractors. On top of this, I have gained all practical application.

The coursework reveal knowledge on construction health and safety, construction project
management fundamentals, project management principles, and human resources
management, which would enable me to apply them in residential, industrial, and
commercial and institutional construction projects. As the program would equip me with
dynamic and hands-on skills in the construction business, I am sure that I would be able to
manage the construction processes effectively and tackle the challenging situations that
arise on the construction site.

After getting involved in working environment I came to know that studying in college and
working is different thing. It is not easy to use the ideas and implement the bookish rule in
the real field and after facing enormous number of challenges in the working environment
I realized I still must learn more about management program in construction field and
improve my managing skills. As we know engineering field is the field of teamwork and the
team needs a good leader to give better and timely result so, I decided to pursue further
education in Construction Management. At first, I thought of acquiring degree course in
my own country but there is lack of plenty of practical education so although we gain
theoretical knowledge we lack practical knowledge. Therefore, I decided to continue my
education in such country which provides theoretical as well as practical knowledge and
welcomes and support more global students to study in their country.

Why Canada:

Canada appealed to me with its world-class education, high-quality programs, and industry-
relevant curriculum. Canadian education receives great recognition globally for its
excellence. Moreover, Canada is a safe country with friendly living conditions and a
multicultural learning environment, which would make my stay comfortable. And I shall be
able to interact and learn, from a global perspective, about how people with different
cultural backgrounds think act and perform in a complex situation. Other than that, in there
are wide range of recognized programs. And some programs also provide co-ops and are
closely synced to the industry. Evidently, completing course from one of the most advanced
nations will make my career future-proof. On the top of this Canadian Education is cost
effective unlike other countries and provides exceptional health care facilities. All these
aspects influenced me to choose Canada as my study destination.

Why Canadore college:

There are valid reasons to choose this college. Firstly, this college is providing best courses if
I compare with other colleges. Secondly, I also visited you-tube channel of this college and I
found out it also bestows best environment for students, library is so sublime, other than
that it also has clubs for sports. It has gym for fitness. Above all, they provide best piece of
knowledge in this course because one of those alumni of this college is in my senior friend,
so he was telling me that Canadore college is finest college for this program. Hence, I have
decided to enroll in this college. I look forward to the program where instruction is imparted
through a blend of classroom learning, online research, hands-on computer application,
individual assignments, group projects and field study. I also look forward to getting
exposure to valuable internships through which I will learn how the industry works. Thus,
helping me realize my goals and pave to self-actualization.
Finance and Sponsor’s details:

I have paid the tuition fees for this course to the Canadore college which amounts to CAD $
15,014 and I have enclosed the official receipt with this application. I have purchased the
GIC from Scotiabank amounting to CAD $10,200 for my living expenses.

My parents’ annual income is INR 12,00,000 (CAD $21,500). My parents have saved enough
funds for my studies and apart from this, I have taken an education loan from ICICI Bank
sanctioned for 15,00,000 (CAD 25,000).

Future Goals:

After the completion of the program, I intend to return to India and explore the
opportunities in my home country. The proposed program would build my competencies to
function as an efficient and professional manager in the construction industry. Due to the
rising demand for skilled professionals in the field in India, I would be able to serve as a
Project Manager/Coordinator, Construction Manager or Construction Coordinator at any of
the reputed construction companies in India like L&T Construction, Tata Projects Ltd,
Hindustan Construction Co Ltd or Gammon India. With the accrued expertise and
experience, I aspire to establish my construction company in my native land, where I would
be able to oversee the completion of many medium and large-scale construction projects.
As such, I would have a fulfilling professional journey in India. Further, I wish to stay close to
my family and I intend to support them the way they aided me. Hence, I would come back
to India after my graduation to unite with my family and define my vocation.

Conclusion:

With this, I would like to consider my Student Visa application so that I can fulfill my dream,
the expectation of my family and native country.
