Procedure for Handling the Ericsson RBS Ext. & Int.

Alarms

Introduction

This procedure is introduced for the BSS-AXE810-NOC (Network Operation


Centre) Engineers for Wataniya Telecom, Algeria. This procedure is purely
concerned with the handling of all external & internal alarms for the Ericsson
RBS (Radio Base Station) from NOC.

Objective

To familiarize the NOC Engineers for handling the Ericsson RBS external &
internal alarms. It will include Alarm monitoring, alarm diagnosis, alarm
escalation and logging of alarms in alarm log book till ceasing with
restoration details.

Repetition

Repeat the steps in every One hour.

Procedure

The procedure is follows as:

Step1: Execute the command

ALLIP:ACL=A1;

If Cell Logical Channel Availability Supervision Alarm is received GO


TO Step 4, Otherwise Continue.

If External Alarm for any RBS is active, GO TO Step 2 otherwise GO


TO Step 3.

Step 2: External Alarm is received.

Go through the details of External Alarm for the site. Following


External Alarms are critical Alarms:

Mains Failure
Battery Low
High/Very High Temp
Intrusion Alarm

Find the TG number (Transceiver Group)of the site.

RXTCP:MOTY=RXOTG,CELL=cell; (To find the TG number of the
site)
Check the Fault Code in the CF (Central Function).

RXMFP:MO=RXOCF-cf;

For the fault code detail, refer the Fault Code.pdf document.

Step 3: Execute the command

ALLIP:ACL=A2;

If External Alarm for any RBS is active, GO TO Step:2, otherwise


continue.

Execute the command

ALLIP:ACL=A3; (Specially for the BTS Internal Fault)

Check the Status & Fault Code in the MOs like CF (Central
Function), TF (Timing Function), IS (Interface Switch), TRX, TX,
RX, TS etc.

RXMSP:MO=RXOCF-cf; (Status of MO)

RXMFP:MO=RXOCF-cf; (Fault code of MO)

For the fault code detail, refer the Fault Code.pdf document. GO
TO Step5.

Step 4: Cell Logical Channel Availability Supervision alarm is received.

Take Printout for the Cell Resources.

RLCRP:CELL=cell;

If NOOFCH (Number of Channels) are Zero, it means, cell/site is


down.

Now find out the reason for getting the site down. It may be due
to the external alarms like Mains failure, High Temp, AC fault,
Intrusion Alarm(someone is working) or E1 down or other internal
fault of RBS. Follow Step 2 & 3 for External Alarms.

Find the TG number (Transceiver Group)of the site.

RXTCP:MOTY=RXOTG,CELL=cell;

Check the status & Fault Code in the CF (Central Function).

RXMSP:MO=RXOCF-cf; (Status of CF)

RXMFP:MO=RXOCF-cf; (Fault Code in CF)


For the fault code detail, refer the Fault Code.pdf.

Check the Status of E1 for the site.

RXAPP:MO=RXOTG-tg; (you will get RBL2 device)


RADEP:DEV=RBL2-rbl2; (you will get SNT)
NTCOP:SNT=snt; (you will get DIP name)
DTSTP:DIP=dip; (Check the status of DIP. The Status will be
either WO or ABL). If it is WO, means Dip is working. If it is ABL,
means it is Automatically Blocked.

If Dip is ABL, then this is the one main reason for the site down.

Collect all external & internal alarm information and follow Step
5.

Step 5:
5.a) Escalate the alarm (External and Internal) to the field engineer

5.b) Note down the Alarm description in the Alarm Log Book with
BSC, Site name, date and time of Alarm. (Ref: Alarm Log Book
is provided in the NOC). Note down the name of the field
engineer & time of escalation of alarm.

5.c) After restoring of alarm, note down the ceasing date & time
with the restoration details (Restoration Detail must include
the cause of alarm & What is the action taken and by whom)
in Alarm Log Book.

Job Completed.

PS: Keep the Alarm Log Book maintained with the complete information for
each & every event.
