numerals.

C. Presentation

Let’s go back on how did you wrote those

numbers. Sufyaan wrote a number one like this,
this way of writing a number is called a roman
way.
Okay class, where did you observe we use
roman numerals?
Very good!all of your answers are correct,
roman numerals class usually used in clock to
tell the time, in an exam to divide the questions
and also in a quiz and exercises.
Roman numerals class are a system of
numerical notations used by the Romans. They
are an additive (and subtractive) system in
which letters are used to denote certain "base"
numbers, and arbitrary numbers are then
denoted using combinations of symbols.
Unfortunately, little is known about the origin of
the Roman numeral system.
This is the Roman Numeral chart.

Yes teacher!
4!
For example, the number 1732 would be
denoted MDCCXXXII in Roman numerals.
However, Roman numerals are not a purely Yes teacher
additive number system. In particular, instead
of using four symbols to represent a 4, 40, 9,
90, etc. (i.e., IIII, XXXX, VIIII, LXXXX, etc.), 14 teacher!
such numbers are instead denoted by
preceding the symbol for 5, 50, 10, 100, etc.,
with a symbol indicating subtraction. For
example, 4 is denoted IV, 9 as IX, 40 as XL,
etc. However, this rule is generally not followed
on the faces of clocks, where IIII is usually 150 teacher!
encountered instead of IV.
If we write like this “I” this is number one, if we
write like this “V” this is number five, if we write
like this “X” this is number ten. So, if we have
“II” this is 2, if there are three like this “III” this is 1000 teacher.
number three but if we write number four in a
roman numeral form we can write it like this “IV”
why? Because “V” is a five write?
Then if we put this “I” before the “V” which 40 teacher!
means we have to subtract it to get the answer
so 5-1?
So, we write “IV” the “I” must write first in order Yes Teacher!
to subtract to the next roman numeral that is
bigger to it. Do you understand class? Because we use Roman numerals also to know
Now let’s try, if we have here “XIV” what is the the time and use it in a test or a quiz teacher.
equivalent of this in a number form?
So “X” is a ten, the “I” is a one and the “V” is
five let’s see 10+1-5=?
Very good! The answer is 14. A system teacher that is used by the Romans.
How about this?
We have here a “C” a 100 then we have here a
“L” a 50, what is the equivalent of this in a
number form?
Yes Joana?
Very good Joana.
How about this?
Yes teacher.
We have here a “M”, what is the equivalent of
this in a number form?
Ye Joy?
Very good. lastly,
If we have here a “X” and a “L”, what is the Yes teacher.
equivalent of this in a number form?
Yes Kath?

Very good Kath.

D. Comparison and Abstraction
Is Roman Numerals and numbers the same?
Why Florence?

Very good Florence.
